MG is preparing to roll out a refreshed version of its MG4 electric hatchback in China, with the official launch expected in early September. Spy shots have revealed both exterior and interior updates to the vehicle, along with key technology enhancements and larger dimensions. The updated model is likely to compete more directly with rivals like the BYD Dolphin and Volkswagen ID.3, as MG aims to improve its standing in the competitive small EV segment.

Fresh Look and New Colour
A prototype of the new MG4 has been spotted in China wearing a new paint finish called Donglai Purple, which means "coming from the East". According to SAIC Motor, the parent company of MG, this new colour is designed to offer a pearlescent shimmer in different lighting conditions. The front design now includes an illuminated MG emblem, giving the car a more modern appearance.

Inside, the updated MG4 sports a cleaner, more minimalist dashboard with a floating central infotainment screen and a rectangular digital instrument cluster. A two-spoke multifunction steering wheel replaces the older design, while the gear selector is now a column-mounted electronic shifter.
The MG4 will also feature Oppo’s new in-car ecosystem, enabling smartphone connectivity, app mirroring, AI voice assistance, and gesture-based navigation controls. Additional creature comforts include a wireless phone charging pad, power-adjustable ventilated seats, and metallic physical controls.
