MG Motor Australia has slashed the price of the base MG4 51 Excite to just $30,990 drive-away, becoming the cheapest electric car available in Australia. It undercuts the next most affordable electric vehicle, the GWM Ora by $4000.

It now similarly priced or cheaper than similarly sized traditional petrol-engined small cars, including the Toyota Corolla SX Hybrid ($35,260), Mazda 3 G20 Evolve ($32,020), and Hyundai i30 Elite ($30,800) - excluding on-road costs.

The next cheapest offering from MG is the MG ZS Excite priced at $34,990 drive-away.

The price reductions result in savings of up to $10,425, depending on the state/territory.

These prices cuts follow price discounting across the board over the last six months with other popular EV models like the GWM Ora, BYD Seal, Tesla Model 3 and Y and Polestar 2 all reducing prices, aiming to boost sales and clear 2023 excess inventory.
