Polestar 3 Breaks Guinness Record for EV SUV Range

Comments

Polestar has secured a place in the Guinness World Records with its new midsize SUV. A Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor travelled 935.44 kilometres (581.3 miles) on a single charge, setting the benchmark for electric SUVs.

The attempt took place in late July on public roads around Norwich, UK. The driving team (Sam Clarke, Kevin Booker and Richard Parke) are all professional efficiency specialists. They took almost 23 hours to complete the run, pausing only for driver swaps and short rest breaks.

Perhaps the most surprising detail came at the end. Even when the SUV’s display showed zero remaining range, the Polestar 3 managed an additional 8 miles before coming to a stop.

Vehicle, Specs and Setup

The record was achieved using the entry-level Polestar 3 Long Range Single Motor. This version of the SUV uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 220 kW of Power amd 490 Nmof torque. It sits on 20-inch wheels as standard, the exact specification used in the run.

Every Polestar 3 variant carries the same 111 kWh battery pack, which has an official EPA range estimate of 350 miles (563 km). Under normal use, the SUV accelerates from 0–100 km/hrin about 7.5 seconds, with a top speed of 180 km/hr.

Conditions on the Day

The record was not set on a closed course but instead on public roads. Norwich’s flat terrain and smooth road surfaces were chosen to maximise efficiency. The run began at 2:00 am local time, allowing the drivers to avoid traffic during the crucial early hours and maintain consistent, slow-paced driving.

All performance and battery data was logged every second. Video, GPS signals, odometer readings and battery-level data were captured for transparency. Guinness officials verified the record on site.

The team did face setbacks. Wet weather briefly reduced efficiency, forcing the vehicle to consume 19.7 kWh per 100 miles compared to 18.5 kWh per 100 miles on dry stretches. Even so, efficiency remained strong enough to push the vehicle far past its official rating.

How It Compares to Other Records

This is not the first EV to push beyond its rated range. Earlier in July, Lucid set a record of its own with the Lucid Air Grand Touring, which covered 749 miles (1,205 km) in Switzerland. That attempt, however, took advantage of high-altitude starting points, allowing regenerative braking to extend the range through long downhill stretches.

By contrast, the Polestar 3 attempt was conducted on mostly flat public roads. That makes the result particularly notable for everyday drivers, as it demonstrates what is possible under relatively ordinary conditions.
