Australia's expanding electric vehicle market is about to welcome another Chinese luxury brand, with Avatr confirming it will launch locally with the new 07L electric SUV.
The brand will arrive under Changan Group Australia, adding another premium EV contender to a market already crowded with Tesla, Zeekr and a growing number of Chinese manufacturers. The 07L is expected to open for pre orders towards the end of 2026, with first Australian deliveries planned for early 2027.
Meet The Avatr 07L
The 07L will be Avatr's first model for Australian buyers and is being positioned as a technology focused luxury EV.
The brand itself is backed by some major names in China's automotive and technology industries. Avatr was developed through a partnership involving Changan, battery manufacturer CATL and technology company Huawei.
In China, the 07L measures:
- 4910mm long
- 1980mm wide
- 1650mm tall
- 2990mm wheelbase
That makes it slightly longer than the Zeekr 7X and Tesla Model Y, while remaining similar in height.
The SUV uses an 800 volt electrical architecture, designed to support rapid charging, while the battery is supplied by CATL.
Australian specifications are yet to be finalised, with local pricing and other details expected closer to the launch.
How Fast Is It?
Performance will be another part of the 07L's appeal, with the top specification available in China capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in less than four seconds.
That puts the 07L in the same general performance bracket as the Tesla Model Y and Zeekr 7X, although it remains unclear which powertrain and performance specifications will be offered in Australia.
Avatr has not yet confirmed local specifications, so Australian buyers will need to wait for the official launch information before knowing exactly which version will arrive here.
The company is also placing considerable emphasis on technology rather than performance alone, positioning the 07L as a premium vehicle built around what it calls its “Emotive Luxury” philosophy.
Inside The High Tech Cabin
The 07L's interior takes a technology heavy approach, with several features designed to give it a more premium feel.
Overseas versions feature a 15.6 inch central touchscreen, along with a huge 35.4 inch panoramic display positioned across the base of the windscreen.
Digital side mirrors are also available, with their camera feeds displayed on 6.4 inch screens inside the cabin.
Audio is supplied by Meridian, with the system using advanced digital signal processing.
Avatr is also putting significant attention into artificial intelligence. Its Avatr OS is designed to allow drivers to interact with the vehicle using more conversational voice commands rather than the rigid commands often associated with existing in car voice assistants.
The company says the system is intended to make interaction with the vehicle feel more natural.
What This Means For Australia
Avatr's arrival adds another premium Chinese EV brand to an Australian market that now has around 70 car brands competing for buyers.
The company is pitching itself towards Australian customers looking for a combination of luxury, technology, performance and distinctive design. Changan Group Australia says local buyers are becoming increasingly open to brands that challenge traditional automotive conventions.
The 07L will face competition from established EV names including Tesla and Zeekr, while its combination of 800 volt technology, a high tech cabin and strong performance could give Avatr another way to stand out.
For now, the biggest missing pieces are price and Australian specifications. Those details are expected later in 2026, ahead of pre orders and the first deliveries in early 2027.
