The electric vehicle charging footprint in New South Wales is set for a major boost, with 549 new kerbside chargers to be installed across 130 suburbs over the next year. The rollout is part of a $2.8 million investment from the Minns Labor Government aimed at improving EV accessibility, especially for residents without off-street parking.

The new charging infrastructure will target densely populated areas, making it easier for apartment dwellers and those in older housing stock to charge their vehicles. The chargers, which range from 7kW to 22kW, will be mounted on power poles and pedestals and placed on kerbsides and in council car parks.

Five companies have been selected to deliver the installations: Charge Post, Connected Kerb, EVX, Plus ES and Electric Future. These providers will contribute an additional $2.2 million in private funding, bringing the total investment to $5 million.
The state government sees kerbside charging as a key component in encouraging EV adoption. With Australia working toward net-zero targets, these accessible charging solutions aim to help households cut fuel costs and reduce emissions without requiring private garage space.
