MG Motor Australia has confirmed pricing for the MGU9 EV, the brand's first fully electric ute, at $78,990 plus on-road costs. The ute is rated at 430km of WLTP range and 3.5 tonnes of braked towing capacity, and Australia is the first market in the world to get it.
The MGU9 EV lands as electric utes shift from a niche curiosity to a genuine market segment. It's the third fully electric ute on sale in Australia, joining the KGM Musso Electric and the Toyota HiLux BEV, and gives buyers who need real towing and payload capacity another zero-emission option.
Price and availability
MG Motor Australia has set an MSRP of $78,990 plus on-road costs for the MGU9 EV. The ute will start arriving in Australia from the fourth quarter of 2026, with the country confirmed as the first market globally to get it. Buyers can register their interest through MG's website.
Dimitri Andreatidis, Marketing Director at MG Motor Australia, said the MGU9 EV offers a different proposition in the local ute market. “The MGU9 EV brings the things people love about a ute, the space, flexibility and ability to get away for the weekend, and the comfort and refinement typically associated with a modern SUV, together with the benefits of a fully electric powertrain,” he said.
“At $78,990 plus on-road costs, we believe the MGU9 EV offers a compelling combination of capability, performance and technology, and we're excited that Australia will be the first market globally to be able to get behind the wheel,” Andreatidis said.
Powertrain, range and charging
The MGU9 EV is powered by a 102.2kWh LFP battery and dual electric motors driving all four wheels. It produces 325kW of power and 700Nm of torque, enough for a 0-100km/h time of 5.8 seconds. WLTP range is rated at 430km.
The ute supports 11kW AC charging and DC fast charging at up to 115kW, with a 20-80 per cent DC charge taking about 42 minutes. Four-wheel Electronic Air Suspension is standard.
Braked towing capacity is rated at 3,500kg, with 750kg unbraked. Payload sits at 685kg. A 236-litre frunk adds separate, weatherproof storage up front, on top of the tray.
The MGU9 EV also offers 6.6kW of vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability externally, plus 2.2kW internally, letting owners run tools, camping gear or appliances directly from the vehicle's battery, away from mains power.
Interior and technology
Inside, the MGU9 EV pairs ute practicality with passenger-car features. The cabin includes leather front seats, dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 15W wireless phone charging and an eight-speaker JBL sound system. The driver's seat adds heating, ventilation and massage functions.

Built on the same platform as the LDV Terron 9
The MGU9 EV shares its underlying platform with the LDV Terron 9. Both utes are built by SAIC Motor, the parent company of MG and LDV, and both nameplates are offered with diesel and fully electric powertrains. MG has also confirmed a diesel version of the U9 for Australia alongside the electric model.
How the MGU9 EV compares to Australia's other electric utes
The MGU9 EV is the third fully electric ute confirmed for the Australian market, after the KGM Musso Electric and the Toyota HiLux BEV. Pricing across the three is measured on different bases: MG's figure is MSRP plus on-road costs, KGM's is drive-away, and Toyota's is before on-road costs, so the numbers below aren't directly comparable without adjusting for that. Some Toyota HiLux BEV figures also remain unconfirmed pending final Australian homologation.

A growing electric ute market
MG's launch comes as battery electric vehicles account for almost one in four new vehicle sales in Australia, according to MG Motor Australia, citing August 2026 figures.
