Targeting a competitive £20,000 (A$38,700) starting price in the UK, the MG2 aims to offer an appealing balance of size, range, and cost-effectiveness. This is about 25% cheaper than the MG4 in the UK which starts at £26,995 ($A52,400).

Applying this same discount to MG 4's price in Australia (A$38,990), would make the MG2 a sub $30,000 car, making it an intriguing option for electric car buyers looking for the cheapest electric car they can find.

According to MG Motor UK's product planning chief, David Allison, the new EV is expected to hit the market in the second half of 2025, positioning MG as a strong contender in the affordable EV segment. The company's ambition to introduce a sporty top-range model also hints at a diversification strategy to cater to different consumer preferences within the electric vehicle space.

The strategy reflects MG's dedication to bolstering its electric vehicle offerings and sustaining momentum in key markets.
