KGM is wasting no time building its EV footprint in Australia. After unveiling its first electric ute earlier this month, the brand has followed up with something that will matter to far more Aussie buyers: a fully electric mid-size SUV called the Torres EVX.

Priced at $58,000 driveaway, the Torres EVX rolls straight into a crowded but very hot segment, right alongside the Tesla Model Y, Xpeng G6 and BYD Sealion 7. It is big, practical and packed with kit, yet the price tag remains noticeably sharp.

And while KGM is still building brand recognition under its new name, the Torres EVX looks like the model designed to push open the door. Think long warranty coverage, a large LFP battery, a roomy cabin and a long list of tech features that put it in the conversation with the market’s best sellers.

A New EV Contender

The Torres EVX uses a front-mounted 152 kW electric motor that delivers 339 Nm of torque. Power comes from an 80.6 kWh LFP battery with a WLTP range of 462 km, making it a realistic commuter and road-trip option for families.

Charging times are extremely competitive. KGM says a 10 to 80 per cent DC fast charge can be completed in around 37 minutes on a 300 kW charger, while an 11 kW home charger will take roughly nine hours for a full refill.

Inside, the Torres EVX feels like a tech-forward SUV. A wide panoramic display stretches across the dash, combining dual 12.3 inch screens for infotainment and driver information. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and a powered sunroof, heated seats and a premium-feeling cabin round out the package.

Key highlights include:

  • Vehicle-to-Load capability for powering tools or camping gear
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • 3D 360-degree camera
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Long list of safety tech including AEB, lane assist, RCTA and eight airbags

The Torres EVX also carries one of the most generous battery warranties in the industry: 10 years unlimited kilometres for the pack and 7 years unlimited kilometres for the vehicle.

Growing Momentum for KGM

This is a significant step for a brand in the middle of reinventing itself. KGM, formerly SsangYong, has quietly been laying the groundwork for a comeback, injecting fresh design and technology into a market that has rapidly shifted toward electrification.

Launching an electric ute and now a mid-size electric SUV in quick succession signals clear intent. The Torres EVX arrives in one of the most competitive segments in Australia, but sharp pricing and long warranties give it immediate appeal.

The SUV will begin arriving at select dealers shortly ahead of the official sales start on 1 December 2025.

The more players in the EV space, the better it gets for Aussie buyers. If KGM can deliver reliable product support and competitive after-sales service, the Torres EVX could become the breakthrough model that accelerates the brand’s presence in Australia.
