Key Points
- GWM is adding new PHEV and BEV models across its range in 2026, including the Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV arriving in April.
- The Cannon ute will get Hi4-T PHEV tech in mid-2026, making GWM the only brand with two PHEV utes on sale.
- At least two new Ora electric models are confirmed for Australia this year, with PHEV variants also possible.
GWM sold close to 53,000 vehicles in Australia in 2025. Now the brand is pushing harder in 2026, with up to 10 new and refreshed models planned for the year. Electric vehicles, both plug-in hybrids (PHEV) and fully electric (BEV), are at the centre of that plan.

What's Coming in 2026
GWM has confirmed several new electric models for Australia this year. Here is a summary of the key arrivals.
GWM 2026 Electric Model Arrivals
Model | Type | Expected |
Tank 300 Hi4-T | PHEV | April 2026 |
Cannon (Hi4-T) | PHEV | Mid-2026 |
Haval Jolion Max | SUV (details TBC) | 2026 |
Ora (new models x2) | BEV / PHEV (TBC) | 2026 |
WEY (premium marque) | TBC | H2 2026 |
Tank 300 Hi4-T PHEV
The Tank 300 Hi4-T is GWM's first PHEV off-roader for Australia. It arrives in April 2026, priced from $55,990 driveaway. The Hi4-T system combines a petrol engine with two electric motors for four-wheel drive capability. It is designed for both on-road and off-road use.

Cannon Ute Gets PHEV Tech
GWM will bring the Hi4-T powertrain to the Cannon ute in mid-2026. This makes GWM the only brand in Australia offering two PHEV variants in the ute segment. The Cannon already sells well in Australia, and the PHEV version adds an electric-assisted four-wheel drive option for buyers who want efficiency without giving up towing or off-road ability.
New Ora Electric Models
At least two new Ora models will arrive in Australia in 2026. GWM has not confirmed exact names yet, but the brand says PHEV technology could also come to the Ora range. One of the models is expected to be the Ora 5, a small electric SUV in the same segment as the BYD Atto 2, MG S5 EV, Kia EV3 and Leapmotor B10. The current Ora is one of Australia's most affordable EVs, and the new models are expected to build on that.

Hi4 and Hi4-T: The Tech Behind the Push
GWM's plug-in hybrid technology is built around two powertrain systems: Hi4 and Hi4-T. Both use a combination of petrol and electric motors to deliver four-wheel drive without a traditional transfer case. Hi4-T is the more capable version, designed for heavy-duty off-road use. GWM is rolling these systems out across more models in 2026.
Hi4 vs Hi4-T: Key Differences
Feature | Hi4 | Hi4-T |
Drive type | AWD (electric) | AWD (electric, heavy-duty) |
Off-road focus | Moderate | High |

WEY: GWM's Premium Brand
GWM will also introduce WEY to Australia in the second half of 2026. WEY is GWM's premium sub-brand. No specific models have been confirmed yet, but the brand is expected to bring electric or hybrid vehicles to the market.
Dealer Network and Support
GWM is growing its dealer network to 135 locations by the end of 2026, up from 123 currently. A new flagship dealership opens in Rockingham, Western Australia in April. The brand has also grown its internal team by 20% over the past six months to support the expansion.
GWM's stated goal is to reach the top five automotive brands in Australia by the end of 2027. The brand is targeting more than 60,000 vehicle sales in 2026.
