Key Points
- The Geely EX5 Complete starts at $41,990 before on-road costs, $15,910 cheaper than the Zeekr 7X RWD at $57,900
- The EX5 Complete claims a longer WLTP range at 475km versus the 7X RWD's 480km, near identical despite the EX5's smaller 68.39kWh battery against the 7X's 71kWh pack
- Geely's EX5 has posted strong month-on-month growth through April and May 2026, while the Zeekr 7X has grown even faster off a smaller base, up 533 percent year-on-year as a brand
The Geely EX5 Complete and Zeekr 7X RWD sit in different price brackets in the mid-size electric SUV segment, but both are mounting a serious challenge to the established order of Tesla and BYD. The EX5 is the budget-focused entry point with luxury features. The 7X is positioned as a premium alternative to the Tesla Model Y.
At $15,910 apart before on-road costs, these two cars are not direct rivals on price. But Geely's strong sales trajectory in 2026 has put the EX5 in the conversation as one of the segment's fastest-growing models, making this comparison a useful look at what extra money buys in this class.
Editor's note: pricing, specifications and offers for both models are subject to change. Figures below reflect Zecar's EV database and manufacturer-published specs as of August 2026.
Pricing
Geely offers the EX5 in two trims. Zeekr offers the 7X in three. The entry-level variants compared here sit $15,910 apart before on-road costs.

The Zeekr 7X is longer, wider and rides on a longer wheelbase than the EX5, reflecting its higher market position and larger overall footprint. The EX5 counters with a tighter turning circle, useful for car parks and tight streets.
Dimension | Geely EX5 Complete | Zeekr 7X RWD | Difference |
Length | 4,615mm | 4,787mm | 7X +172mm longer |
Width | 1,901mm | 1,930mm | 7X +29mm wider |
Height | 1,670mm | 1,650mm | EX5 +20mm taller |
Wheelbase | 2,750mm | 2,900mm | 7X +150mm longer |
Ground clearance | 148mm | 172mm | 7X +24mm |
Turning circle | 11.8m | 11.6m | 7X 0.2m tighter |
Kerb weight | 1,766kg | 2,050kg | EX5 284kg lighter |
Boot capacity (std/max) | 410L / 1,877L | 539L / 1,143L | 7X +129L standard |
Frunk capacity | Not equipped | 66L | 7X only |
The 7X's SUV Coupe body style and longer wheelbase translate into a noticeably bigger car on the road, but the EX5's lighter 1,766kg kerb weight is a 284kg advantage that provides for better energy efficiency. The EX5 does not offer a frunk, while the 7X's 66L front storage is a useful extra for charging cables or smaller items.
Range and Performance
Despite the EX5's smaller battery and front-wheel-drive single motor, its claimed WLTP range is within 5km of the more powerful 7X RWD due to it weighing significantly less. The 7X is substantially quicker and tows significantly more.
Spec | Geely EX5 Complete | Zeekr 7X RWD |
WLTP range | 475km | 480km |
Usable battery | 68.39kWh | 71kWh |
Efficiency (WLTP) | 144Wh/km | 148Wh/km |
0-100km/h | 7.4 seconds | 6.0 seconds |
Top speed | 175km/h | 210km/h |
Power | 160kW | 310kW |
Torque | 320Nm | 440Nm |
Drive type | Front | Rear |
Towing capacity (unbraked/braked) | Not rated | 750kg / 2,000kg |
The near-identical range despite a 2.6kWh smaller battery shows the EX5 is the more efficient car on paper, at 144Wh/km against the 7X's 148Wh/km.
The performance gap however is significant. The 7X's 310kW motor nearly doubles the EX5's 160kW output, and the acceleration difference reflects that: 6.0 seconds to 100km/h for the 7X against 7.4 seconds for the EX5. The 7X's 2,000kg braked towing capacity also puts it in a different practical category, allowing it to two small caravans, while the EX5 is not rated to tow.
Battery and Charging
Both cars use LFP battery chemistry. The 7X's charging architecture is in a different class, with double the AC charging rate and more than four times the peak DC rate of the EX5.
Spec | Geely EX5 Complete | Zeekr 7X RWD |
Usable battery capacity | 68.39kWh | 71kWh |
Chemistry | LFP | LFP (Golden Brick) |
Max AC charging power | 11kW | 22kW |
AC charge time (0-100%) | 7 hours 12 minutes | 3 hours 48 minutes |
Max DC charging power | 100kW | 450kW |
DC charge time (10-80%, approx) | ~34 minutes | ~13 minutes |
Bidirectional charging | V2L only | V2L only |
Bidirectional power output | 3.3kW | 3.3kW |
The 7X's 800V architecture is the standout difference in this comparison. Its claimed 450kW DC peak and 13-minute 10-80% charge time are both well ahead of the EX5's more conventional 400V setup, though Australia's public DC network currently tops out around 350kW in most locations, meaning the 7X's real-world advantage will be smaller than the spec sheet suggests. Both cars offer vehicle-to-load at an identical 3.3kW output, and neither supports vehicle-to-home or vehicle-to-grid (yet).
Driver Technology and Infotainment
Both cars carry a five-star ANCAP safety rating and come standard with a comparable suite of Level 2 driver assistance features.
Standard on both:
- Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
- Adaptive cruise control
- Lane keep assist and lane departure warning
- Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
- 360-degree camera system
The 7X adds a head-up display and a more advanced Highway Assist style lane-centring function, not confirmed as standard on the EX5 Complete. The EX5 Inspire trim adds front parking sensors that are not standard on the Complete grade compared here.

On infotainment, the 7X runs a 16-inch central touchscreen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, paired with a separate digital instrument cluster and head-up display, and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The EX5 Complete's infotainment specification is less premium, befitting its position as the value entry point in the segment, though Geely has confirmed CarPlay and Android Auto support is being added via over-the-air update.
Both include a companion smartphone app for remote lock, climate control and charge monitoring. The 7X's higher-end hardware and head-up display are clear differentiators that reflect the $15,910 price gap between the two cars.

Warranty and Servicing
The EX5 carries the longer vehicle warranty of the two, while the 7X requires more frequent servicing.
Spec | Geely EX5 Complete | Zeekr 7X RWD |
Vehicle warranty | 7 years / unlimited km | 5 years / unlimited km |
Battery warranty | 8 years / unlimited km | 8 years / 160,000km |
Service interval | 12 months / 20,000km | 24 months / 40,000km |
On paper, the EX5's warranty terms are stronger across the board: two extra years on the vehicle warranty and no kilometre cap on its battery cover, compared with the 7X's 160,000km battery limit. The 7X's longer 24-month service interval could offset some of that gap in practice, since fewer scheduled visits over time may mean lower cumulative servicing costs. Geely's strong warranty terms are part of a broader push by the brand to build trust with Australian buyers following its 2025 market re-entry.
Verdict
These two cars are not not in the same price bracket but are some cross-shopped by the same buyer. The EX5 Complete is built to win on price, undercutting the 7X by nearly $16,000 while still delivering a near-identical claimed range. The 7X RWD is built to win on substance, with far stronger performance, faster charging and a more premium cabin.
Buyers shopping purely on range-per-dollar and total cost of ownership will find the EX5 Complete hard to beat. Buyers who want a genuinely premium-feeling mid-size SUV with strong performance and fast charging, and who can stretch the budget, will get meaningfully more car from the 7X RWD.
Both have shown they can take meaningful share from Tesla and BYD in 2026, just from opposite ends of the price spectrum.
