Geely has lodged paperwork with Australia's road vehicle regulator for two new EX5 variants fitted with a factory towbar. One of them is rated to tow up to 750kg braked, the first towing capacity offered on the EX5 since it went on sale in Australia.
Two New Variants Add a Towbar
The EX5 variants currently sold in Australia do not have a rated towing capacity. The new filing adds two variants that change this. Both are listed with a factory towbar fitted as standard equipment, alongside the six EX5 variants already covered by the approval.
The first variant carries the stronger rating, at 750kg for a braked trailer and 750kg for an unbraked trailer. A second new variant, also gets the towbar but is rated to tow only a 750kg unbraked trailer however its braked trailer rating is listed as 0kg.

Everything Else Stays the Same
Outside of the towbar and the extra mass it adds, the specifications in the approval document are otherwise unchanged across all eight EX5 variants Geely has filed, including the two new tow-rated variants. Exterior dimensions are identical across the entire range.
The EX5 uses a single front-mounted electric motor producing 160kW, driving the front wheels through a single-speed automatic transmission. Braking is hydraulic, with power assistance from the regenerative braking system, using 302mm ventilated front discs and 302mm non-ventilated rear discs.

Geely Australia has not confirmed pricing, an on-sale date, or whether the towbar will be offered as a factory option across the range or limited to specific trims.
Type approval filings like this one are usually lodged ahead of a model update reaching showrooms, but the timing is not confirmed.
