How It Compares to Rivals
The AION UT sits in the small EV hatchback segment. Its key rivals in Australia include the BYD Dolphin, MG4 EV Urban, and GWM Ora. Here is how the AION UT stacks up on price and range:
AION UT vs Key Rivals
Model | Segment | Entry Price (Drive-Away) | Range (WLTP) |
GAC AION UT Premium | Small EV Hatch | $30,990 | 430km |
BYD Dolphin Premium | Small EV Hatch | $36,990 | 427km |
MG4 EV Urban | Small EV Hatch | $31,990 | 350km |
GWM Ora | Small EV Hatch | $34,990 | 420km |
The AION UT Premium undercuts the BYD Dolphin Premium by around $6,000 at entry level, while offering comparable range. It also beats the MG4 EV Urban on range by 80km.
Space and Interior
Despite its compact footprint, the AION UT has a 2,750mm wheelbase. That gives 905mm of rear legroom and 1,385mm of shoulder room. Boot space is 321 litres, expanding to 689 litres with the rear seats folded.
The front cabin has an open-access walkway, which helps when parking next to walls or poles in tight underground carparks. Front seats fully recline and are wrapped in a butterfly design.

Tech and Screens
The AION UT has an 8.8-inch frameless driver display with anti-glare coating and a 14.6-inch central infotainment screen. Both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported. A full voice control system is also included.
The GAC App gives owners remote access to 40 functions across four modules, including state of charge, range, climate control, and vehicle location.

Safety
Level 2 ADAS is standard on both grades. The AION UT is the first in its segment to offer Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) when reversing, in addition to forward AEB. The system also detects pedestrians and motorcyclists.
Seven airbags are fitted, including a 2.1-metre side curtain airbag. The chassis uses 39% high-strength and 28% hot-formed steel, with a roof structure rated to withstand 7 tonnes of pressure.
Battery and Charging
Both grades use a 60kWh LFP Magazine Battery 2.0 with Cell-To-Pack technology. The battery has fireproof insulation and internal cooling fluid that prevents fire or explosion even when punctured or heated to 180 degrees Celsius.
