Denza has pushed its first major over-the-air software update to Australian owners of the B5 and B8. OTA version 1.1.0 is now rolling out to both plug-in hybrid SUVs, with changes targeting towing capability, off-road performance, and general usability.
The update follows Denza's Beer O'Clock Hill off-road event earlier this year, where the brand said it was gathering real-world learnings from Australian terrain to share with its R&D team.
Towing Changes
The B5 can now activate cruise control while towing. A dedicated towing mode button lets drivers switch in and out of towing mode easily, and drivers can now input the weight of their trailer so the vehicle adjusts its behaviour accordingly.
The B8 gains the same ability to use cruise control in towing mode, plus dynamic range estimation is now available when towing.

Off-Road Improvements
Denza says the update includes revised traction control management algorithms for both the B5 and B8. According to the brand, the new algorithms better coordinate wheel speed and motor torque to improve off-road performance and stability.
The company also claims enhanced flexibility in sandy conditions, though no independent test data has been provided to support this at this stage.

Other Changes in This Update
The head-up display has been updated for both models to show whether the indicators are active. A driver password lock has also been added.
The B8, which is the seven-seat variant with a third row, now has improved anti-jam resistance for its folding second and third-row seats. The system will prevent the seats from folding if resistance is detected.
Sales and Competition

Denza delivered 729 B5s and 394 B8s in Australia through the end of April 2026. Eight D9 electric people movers have also been delivered since that model launched.
The B5 and B8 are outselling the Lexus GX so far this year, which sits at 292 units year-to-date. The closest direct competitor in the large body-on-frame PHEV SUV segment is the GWM Tank 500, which has moved 411 units year-to-date across both hybrid and PHEV variants.
What Is Next for Denza in Australia

The Denza Z9 GT electric shooting brake is due in Australia in the third quarter of 2026 (July to September). It will be the first vehicle sold in Australia by either BYD or Denza to feature BYD's next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 technology and ultra-fast flash charging.
"We are listening to customer feedback, not only through our local engineering team but also through real-world experiences shared by owners driving on Australian roads and tracks," said Denza Australia chief operating officer Mark Harland.
"Whether it's improved towing capability, greater off-road confidence or enhanced convenience and safety features, these updates are designed to deliver meaningful improvements that customers will notice in everyday driving."
