ANCAP Safety has released five-star ratings for three new models: the BYD Seal 6, MG4 EV Urban and Tesla Model Y L. The Skoda Octavia also retains its five-star rating following a reassessment of vehicles built from July 2025. All vehicles were assessed against 2023-2025 testing and rating criteria.
BYD Seal 6

The BYD Seal 6 is the top performer in this round. It earned the highest Adult Occupant Protection score of 92%. Available as a sedan and a wagon, the large plug-in hybrid scored well across all four assessment pillars. Crash test protection was rated good across nearly all critical body regions for both driver and passengers.

MG4 EV Urban

The MG4 EV Urban is a new battery electric small car that went on sale in March 2026. It earned five stars with solid results across all pillars. Crash protection was strong in both frontal and side impact tests, with good protection across key body regions. Autonomous emergency braking performed well in forward pedestrian and cyclist scenarios. The rating applies to all variants.

Tesla Model Y L

The six-seat, three-row Tesla Model Y L has been awarded five stars. It carries strong results in Safety Assist (92%) and Adult Occupant Protection (91%). The rating is based on testing of the related five-seat Model Y, with additional testing and assessments to confirm results apply to the longer-wheelbase variant.
One area to note: ANCAP identified difficulties with child restraint installation in the second row. Many restraints could not be correctly installed due to limitations with top tether routing. In the third row, rearward-facing and forward-facing convertible child restraints could not be easily installed using the ISOFix anchorages. Buyers should take care when selecting and installing child restraints in these positions.

Safety information should always be non-negotiable in any vehicle purchase."
