BYD Dolphin Prices Reduced by $2,000

BYD has reduced prices of its smallest and most affordable model, the BYD Dolphin electric hatchback.

The BYD Dolphin Dynamic now starts from $36,890 (was $38,890) before on-road costs. The Dolphin Premium now starts from $42,890 (was $44,890) before on-road costs. This represents savings of $2,000 for each model respectively.

This makes it Australia's second most affordable electric car, the cheapest being the GWM Ora which is priced at $35,990 drive away. The Dolphin is $39,130 drive away in NSW, about $3,000 more than the Ora.

The Dolphin electric hatch is priced lower than similar sized petrol-engined small cars, including the top-spec Toyota Corolla ZR Hybrid ($38,120), Mazda 3 G25 Astina ($42,320), and Hyundai i30 Hatch N-Line Premium ($37,300).

Despite is relatively affordable price the Dolphin has not sold as well as expected, but still managed to be the sixth best selling EV this year.

These prices cuts follow the the BYD Seal and Tesla Model Y and 3 .

Across the broader Australian there has been price discounting across the board with other EV models like the GWM Ora, MG 4, Peugeot e-2008, Renault Megane E-Tech, Nissan Leaf and Polestar 2 all reducing prices, aiming to boost sales and clear 2023 excess inventory.
