Chinese electric carmaker BYD has officially sold over 60,000 vehicles in Australia, marking a major milestone less than three years since it began local deliveries. This achievement reflects BYD’s rapidly growing presence in one of the world’s most competitive and mature auto markets.
A Milestone Moment
The 60,000th BYD vehicle was recently delivered to a customer in Melbourne. Company founder and chairman, Wang Chuanfu, personally handed over the keys, underlining the importance of the Australian market to BYD’s global ambitions.
“Australia is a key market for the BYD brand,” Chuanfu said during the ceremony. “It’s a market that values innovation, safety, and sustainability. Our success here shows the world that BYD can meet the demands of advanced automotive markets.”
He added that the company’s broader goal to "Cool the Earth by 1°C" is being embraced by Australian drivers.

Sales Growth and Price Strategy
BYD’s upward trajectory has been helped by aggressive pricing and regular model releases. The Dolphin hatchback was introduced in January 2025 at a price under $30,000, drawing strong interest across the country.
In early July, the company launched a $4,000 cash-back deal on the Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute after it surpassed 10,000 units sold locally. Combined with consistent pricing initiatives, such offers have made EV ownership more accessible to a wider range of Australians.
