iX1 and iX2: Segment and Key Competitors
Model | Segment | Key Competitors |
BMW iX1 xDrive30 | Premium compact electric SUV | Volvo EX40, Mercedes-Benz EQA, Audi Q4 e-tron, Tesla Model Y |
BMW iX2 xDrive30 | Premium compact electric coupe-SUV | Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, Volvo EX40, Mercedes-Benz EQB |
When the iX1 launched in 2022, its main rivals were the Volvo XC40 Recharge (now EX40) and Mercedes-Benz EQA. Since then, the Audi Q4 e-tron and more affordable Tesla Model Y variants have raised the bar on range and value. The iX1 has been the bestselling fully electric BMW in Australia for three years running. In 2025, the iX2 was the second highest-selling BEV in BMW's local lineup.
The iX1 and iX2 also share their platform with the MINI Countryman Electric, which received a similar efficiency upgrade, pushing its claimed range to around 500km.
What to Expect Next
Final details on performance and electric driving range for the updated models will be available closer to launch. A fully redesigned iX1, influenced by BMW's Neue Klasse design language, is expected later in the decade.
