Key Points
- The Avatr 06T electric wagon has reportedly been spotted testing in New South Wales ahead of a possible 2027 local launch
- Its top specification all wheel drive version produces 712 kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds
- Two CATL LFP battery options offer up to 652 km and 741 km of CLTC range, although Australian specifications remain unconfirmed
A sleek electric wagon from Chinese premium EV brand Avatr has been spotted testing in Australia, offering another indication that the company could expand its local lineup beyond the electric SUV already earmarked for our market.
The vehicle is believed to be the Avatr 06T, a high performance electric wagon that can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 2.8 seconds in its top specification. The sighting was reported in New South Wales, with a photograph taken by Aaron L and subsequently shared on X by Roland from ZappedAu.
The sighting follows an earlier appearance by an Avatr vehicle testing in Australia. The brand has previously flagged plans to enter the local market with the 07L SUV, which has also been spotted on Australian roads.
While Avatr has yet to confirm the 06T for Australia, its appearance suggests the company could be evaluating more than one model for a potential local launch.
Battery Range and Performance
The Avatr 06T is already available in China, where presales began in April 2026. It is offered with two lithium iron phosphate battery packs supplied by CATL, with the larger option providing additional driving range and enabling the most powerful all wheel drive configuration.
The two battery options are rated for the following range figures under China's CLTC testing cycle:
Specification | 75.5 kWh battery | 89.3 kWh battery |
Battery chemistry | LFP | LFP |
Battery supplier | CATL | CATL |
Claimed CLTC range | Up to 652 km | Up to 741 km |
Estimated WLTP range | Around 500 km | Around 550 km |
Fast charging | 30 to 80% in around 10 minutes | 30 to 80% in around 10 minutes |
The estimated WLTP figures are approximate conversions, not official Australian range ratings. Actual results would depend on the final specification and testing certification for any vehicle sold locally.
Both packs use CATL's Shenxing battery technology, which can charge from 30 to 80 per cent in approximately 10 minutes. If that charging performance carries over to an Australian version, it could make the wagon particularly appealing to drivers who regularly undertake longer trips.
Avatr offers different drivetrains, including a rear wheel drive configuration and a more powerful all wheel drive version paired with the larger battery. The top specification all wheel drive model produces a combined 712 kW and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, with a claimed top speed of 240 km/h.
Those figures put the 06T firmly in high performance EV territory. Its wagon body also gives it a different profile from the growing number of electric SUVs competing for buyers' attention.

What We Know About Its Arrival
Avatr was established in 2018 as a joint venture involving three major Chinese companies: carmaker Changan, battery manufacturer CATL and technology company Huawei.
The company is headquartered in Chongqing, China, with design and engineering hubs in Shanghai and Munich, Germany. Its vehicles combine Changan's automotive expertise with CATL battery technology and Huawei's infotainment and autonomous driving systems.
However, it remains unclear whether Huawei's technology will be included in Avatr vehicles sold in international markets, including Australia.
The 06T is not the only Avatr model to have appeared on local roads. The company has previously announced its intention to enter Australia with the 07L SUV, which has also recently been spotted testing.
For now, Avatr has not confirmed Australian specifications, pricing, available variants or a launch date for the 06T. Further details are expected closer to the brand's anticipated local launch, likely in 2027.
The latest sighting may indicate that the company is assessing additional models for Australia, but testing alone does not confirm that the 06T will be sold here.
What This Means For Australia
If the Avatr 06T eventually reaches Australian showrooms, it would give local buyers another option in the relatively specialised electric wagon segment.
Its combination of a long claimed driving range, rapid charging capability and supercar like acceleration could appeal to drivers seeking performance without choosing another SUV. The wagon format may also attract buyers who want a lower slung vehicle with everyday practicality.
Get a novated lease quoteHowever, the figures currently available relate to the Chinese market, and the estimated WLTP ranges should not be treated as confirmed Australian specifications. Pricing, equipment, charging performance and local availability remain unknown.
Avatr's initial Australian plans centre on the 07L SUV, making the 06T's appearance an interesting development as the brand prepares for a potential entry into an increasingly competitive EV market.
For Australian buyers, the key question is whether the company will bring the electric wagon here alongside its SUV. Until Avatr confirms its plans, the 06T remains a promising candidate rather than a confirmed addition to the local market.
