The Leapmotor B05 has been approved for sale in Australia. Federal Government road vehicle standards documents published on 20 April 2026 confirm the approval, listing the vehicle under the marketing designation B05.
Publishing approval notices is the standard process for all imported vehicles. It typically signals that a model will arrive in Australia soon.

What Is the Leapmotor B05?
The B05 is a small electric hatchback. It sits below the B10 small SUV and C10 mid-size SUV in the Leapmotor range. Leapmotor has been in Australia since late 2025, starting with the C10 and later adding the B10 and a hybrid C10.
The B05 is built on Leapmotor's LEAP 3.5 platform with 800V architecture. It measures 4430mm in length, seats five people and uses multi-link rear suspension. Leapmotor says the car has a 50:50 weight distribution, which should make it feel balanced to drive.

Key Specs
The approval documents confirm a 160kW electric motor. This is the same output as the B10 and C10 sold in Australia. Two battery options are available: 52.6kWh and 67.1kWh, with claimed ranges of 361km and 434km respectively.

The B05 Ultra has also been confirmed for Australia but will arrive later, likely late 2026 or early 2027.

Note: BYD Dolphin range figures are for the updated 2025 model. MG4 EV range figures are for the 2026 model. Leapmotor B05 range figures are claimed, not WLTP-confirmed for Australia.
BYD Dolphin

The BYD Dolphin is the most affordable rival. It starts from $29,990 drive away in Australia. The Dolphin Essential uses a 70kW motor and offers up to 340km of WLTP range on the smaller 44.9kWh battery. DC fast charging tops out at 60kW, which is slower than the B05.
MG4 EV Urban

The MG4 EV Urban is MG's entry-level hatchback. It starts from $31,990 drive away. It uses a 110kW or 118kW motor depending on the variant, with up to 405km of WLTP range. DC fast charging is 150kW, matching the B05.
MG4 EV

The MG4 EV is the more established option. It starts from $37,990 drive away and goes up to $55,990 for the top grade. It offers more power and range than the Urban, with up to 435km WLTP range and 150kW DC charging. An AWD version is also available.
Pricing and Availability
Leapmotor has not announced Australian pricing for the B05. Given the brand's approach with the B10 and C10, it is expected to be priced competitively. The MG4 EV Urban starts at $31,990 drive away and the MG4 EV at $37,990 drive away, so the B05 will likely need to come in at price point at least between these.
The B05 debuted at the Munich Motor Show in September 2025. It is produced in Spain through Leapmotor's partnership with Stellantis. An official Australian arrival date has not been confirmed but expect it to launch by Q3 2026.
