Competition in Australia’s small electric car segment is set to heat up with the long-awaited, upcoming launch of the Renault Megane E-Tech. The Megane E-Tech first went on sale in Europe in February 2022, but its launch in Oceania has been delayed due to its overwhelming demand in Europe. It is expected to launch in Australia in late 2023.
The all-new Renault Megane E-Tech is built upon Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance’s advanced CMF-EV platform, which it shares with the Nissan Ariya and upcoming Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric.

Renault Megane E-Tech Specs: Range, Charging and Size
In Europe, the Renault Megane E-Tech is available with a 96 kW (129 hp) or 160 kW (215 hp) electric motor mated to a 40 kWh or 60 kWh battery pack. The Australian market will only get the more potent motor and larger battery. The front-mounted 160 kW motor churns out 300 Nm of instant torque, which makes for lively, spirited driving even in the city. Accelerating from zero to 100 km/h takes just 7.4 seconds with this motor.

The 60 kWh battery pack is good for a range of 454 km when fully charged. According to Renault, it can be charged using a 2.3kW domestic socket, a 7.4kW wall box, a 22kW charging point (32A three-phase), or a 130kW DC fast-charger. When utilising a 130kW DC fast charger, this battery can add up to 300 km of driving range in 30 minutes.
The Renault Megane E-Tech is being marketed as a compact crossover on account of its 4x4-like design elements, but its petite dimensions suggest that it fits better in the small electric hatchback segment. It is 4199 mm long, 1768 mm wide, and 1506 mm high.
