Xpeng Hits Major Milestone with One Million EVs Produced

zecar

Xpeng has crossed a major milestone, rolling its one millionth electric vehicle off the production line just eleven years after the company began building cars in China. The achievement highlights how quickly the brand has transformed from a tech-leaning startup into one of the world’s fastest-growing EV manufacturers.

The celebratory vehicle was an X9 people mover, handed directly to its new owner by company founder He Xiaopeng alongside vice chairman and president Dr Brian Gu. Xpeng described the moment as a tribute to the community of owners who helped the brand reach seven-figure production.

The Rise Of Mona

Much of that momentum comes from the surprisingly strong performance of the Mona M03. Released in August 2024, the affordable electric sedan has rapidly become one of Xpeng’s top sellers.

More than 200,000 units have been built so far, accounting for about one fifth of the company’s total production. An SUV companion model is set to join the lineup next year, giving Xpeng another entry in the budget-friendly, tech-focused segment that global buyers are flocking toward.

Xpeng In Australia

Xpeng entered the Australian market last year during a launch ceremony at its Sydney Airport flagship. Since then, the brand has steadily built its presence. The G6 SUV has become the strongest performer locally, and although official sales figures have not been released, data from carloop suggests close to 2,000 units have been sold under distributor True EV. Priced from under $55,000 before on-road costs, the G6 has earned attention for its cabin space, technology features and efficiency.

Australian EV shows have also featured several additional Xpeng models, including the G9, P7, X9 and even the company’s experimental flying car. The Mona M03 has appeared on display as well, although Xpeng has yet to confirm whether it will join the local range.

Big Global Plans

Beyond expansion into new markets, the company is leaning heavily into autonomous technology. At its 2025 AI Day in Guangzhou, Xpeng unveiled three upcoming Level 4 Robotaxi models that form part of its global autonomy roadmap.

The vehicles are expected to launch in 2026 and signal the brand’s intention to compete in commercial and self-driving mobility, not just consumer EVs.The strong uptake of the G6 in Australia is already evidence that buyers here are willing to consider new marques when the product delivers compelling tech, quality and pricing. If the Mona range eventually lands locally, it could disrupt the sub-$45k EV space in the same way BYD did only a few years ago.
