This announcement comes in the wake of the Spring's anticipated release in the UK in May 2024. Dacia has unveiled a comprehensive visual and technical update for the updated Spring with a view to consolidating the Spring as one of the best selling budget EVs in the European market.
With pre-orders now open and initial deliveries expected in October, Dacia confirms that the Spring will represent an unparalleled value proposition, comfortably underselling the UK's present budget-friendly electric contender, the Vauxhall Corsa, by a substantial margin of nearly £12,000.
With respect to the UK car market, the Spring EV will become one of the cheapest car options overall, all fuel types included. Only the petrol powered Fiat Panda, Kia Picanto, and Dacia's own Sandero, have a lower starting price than £14,995.
Key specifications and features
All Spring variants are powered by a standard 26.8kWh battery, offering a driving range of up to 137 miles (220km) and support charging speeds up to 30kW DC.
Expression
The entry-level Expression variant is equipped with a modest 44bhp (32 kW) motor capable of reaching 0-62mph (100km/h) in a leisurely 19 seconds. This base model comes with some ompressive standard features such as a 7.0-in touchscreen, USB connectivity, cruise control, electric front windows, and rear parking sensors for convenience.
For those desiring a bit more pep, the 64bhp (48kW) version reduces the 0-62mph (100km/h) time to a swifter 13.7 seconds, and starts at £15,995. This model features larger 15in wheels.
Extreme
The top of the line Extreme trim, which costs an additional £1,000, comes with chic copper-style trim details, electric windows at the back, a substantial 10.0in touchscreen, and wireless smartphone mirroring functionality.
Prospective buyers can place a pre-order now with a deposit of £99. By doing so, Dacia assures customers of their opportunity "to be among the first to get behind the wheel," anticipating a strong demand for this competitively priced EV in the UK market.
Zecar's take
The launch of the updated Dacia Spring at a record low price is a great signal that EV prices are headed in one direction - down. This bodes well for not just the UK and European market but for the Australian market as well.
Given the Spring's limited driving range, it wont be coming to Australia anytime soon. It is however a good sign that global manufactrurer's like Stellantis are committed to producing budget oriented EVs.
