Tesla has reintroduced one of its most popular perks, offering free Supercharging for life to new owners of the Model 3 in Canada.
The announcement was made on Tesla’s official North America account on X, which read:
“Unlimited road trips through Canada. Free Supercharging now on all Model 3 inventory.”
When asked if the benefit would also apply to Canadian owners driving into the US, Tesla confirmed with a simple: “Yep.” This means eligible Model 3 owners can charge for free across both countries, a perk that could save drivers hundreds of dollars on long trips.

Not Tesla’s First Free Supercharging Incentive
This isn’t the first time Tesla has used free charging as an incentive to boost sales. In December 2024, US buyers of the Model S were offered lifetime free Supercharging.
For Australian customers, the perk may bring back memories of Tesla’s early years. Until the end of 2016, all new Model S and Model X vehicles sold locally came with free Supercharging. At the time, the network was limited to just a few sites. Since then, Tesla has built one of the largest fast-charging networks in the country, with almost 130 Supercharger locations now live across Australia, and more than 70,000 stalls worldwide.
Because of this legacy offer, used Teslas from the pre-2017 era with lifetime free Supercharging are still highly sought after on the second-hand market.

Free Charging in Australia: Then and Now
While lifetime Supercharging isn’t currently available for new Tesla buyers here, Australians have seen short-term promotions. In June 2023, Tesla offered three months of unlimited Supercharging on new Model 3 and Model Y Performance orders.
Right now, Tesla Australia has a range of incentives still running for buyers, especially for the Model Y.
Incentive (Australia) | Value | Availability |
Lending incentive | $3,000 | Ongoing |
Novated lease incentive | $3,000 | Ongoing |
Trade-in bonus (Model Y new/demo) | $2,000 | Until 30 Sept 2025 |
Autopilot/FSD transfer | N/A | Until 30 Sept 2025 |

What This Means for Buyers
Tesla’s Canadian move highlights how the brand uses charging perks strategically to clear stock and attract buyers. While Australian buyers aren’t seeing lifetime offers at the moment, the local market still benefits from multiple financial incentives and one of the fastest-growing charging networks in the country.
With EV competition heating up, particularly in the mid-size SUV and sedan segments, it remains to be seen if Tesla will bring back similar charging deals in Australia to maintain its sales lead.
