To mark the news, smart has cut prices across its existing #1 and #3 lineup. The smart #1 now starts from $49,900 before on-road costs, and the smart #3 from $52,900. Both figures represent savings of up to $5000 compared with previous pricing.

The smart #5: what we know so far
Smart has not yet released Australian specifications, pricing or a confirmed on-sale date for the #5. The brand says full launch details will be revealed soon.
Based on overseas specs, the #5 as a twin-motor, all-wheel-drive SUV with a 100kWh battery, an 800V architecture and DC fast charging from 10 to 80 per cent in around 15 minutes. Reported range figures sit around 740km on the Chinese CLTC cycle, or roughly 600km on the more conservative WLTP cycle.
Ahead of its local arrival, the smart #5 has already picked up international recognition. It won Euro NCAP's "Best-in-Class" Large SUV award for 2025 for its safety performance, along with two Red Dot Design Awards for its exterior styling and user interface. Both the safety result and the design are credited to the Mercedes-Benz Global Design Team, which styles smart's entire range.
Once it lands, the smart #5 is expected to compete with mid-size SUVs already popular with Australian buyers, including the Tesla Model Y, Zeekr 7x and the BYD Sealion 7.
Shared design and safety credentials
The smart #1 and #3 are the first two models in smart's new-generation electric line-up. Both are styled by the Mercedes-Benz Global Design Team and follow what smart calls its core philosophy: Designed with Love, No Compromise on Safety, and Amazing Drives. The #1 is built as an agile city SUV, while the #3 takes a sportier SUV coupe shape with a lower roofline and more dynamic driving character.
Both models come with the smart Pilot Assist driver assistance system, multiple drive modes and connected infotainment technology. Each has achieved a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, along with 5-star ratings under Euro NCAP and C-NCAP.
