Price Plunge Makes MG4 77 Australia's Long Range EV Value King

Comments

MG Motor Australia has slashed the price of MG4 2023 and 2024 plate EVs to steal market share from BYD Dolphin and GWM Ora and set the stage to crown MG4 77 as Australia's long range electric car value King.

With a WLTP range of 530km, the MG4 77 is now by far the best value long range electric car in Australia with the driveaway price gap to other electric cars with over 500km WLTP range well over $10,000.

The factory bonus discount of $8000 for 2023 plate MG4 77 and factory bonus discount of $5000 for 2024 plate MG4 77 will be offered from September 20 to October 31 2024.

Since I own an MG4 77 myself I can share that I never have range anxiety.

My real life city range even in cold Winter months is close to 600km driving around the Inner West of Sydney for day to day shopping, work and family visits.

Sure city driving is not that fast due to stop start traffic, speed bumps and roundabouts, however the highway range of this car is also impressive,

I tested the highway range recently driving from Holsworthy to Forster-Tuncurry with a family member and a full boot of holiday luggage.

Leaving the family home with 100% battery we arrived at Discovery Parks Forster after driving 315km, the real world mostly highway speed range was an impressive 484km from full to empty.

I stopped briefly along the way to test the new NRMA Karuah ABB chargers while my family member went to buy ice cream but this stop was not needed at all, I could have easily driven directly to our accommodation without fast charging at all.

On the return journey I started with the battery at 100% again and drove back to Sydney, dropped my family member at Holsworthy, then drove to my home in the Inner West.

After driving 333km the remaining battery indicated a real world mostly highway speed range of impressive 482km from full to empty.

Again I stopped briefly on the return journey, this time to test the new Tesla Raymond Terrace Superchargers while my family member used the shopping centre facilities but this stop was not needed at all, I could have easily driven directly home without fast charging at all.

For any other normal driver who isn't an EV journalist curious to try out new fast charging locations, the total electricity cost for the trip would've been exactly $0 since the caravan park gave me permission to plug my MG4 77 into the cabin's outside power socket while the car was parked.

In comparison a similar sized Toyota Corolla Hybrid hatchback would've cost about $70 in petrol to drive the same return journey as petrol prices were close to $2/L that week.
