Key Points

  • Chery has updated the E5 electric SUV for MY27 with new comfort, technology and convenience features.
  • The driver's seat gains massage and ventilation, and the front passenger seat is upgraded to six-way power adjustment with ventilation added.
  • The central touchscreen grows from 12.3 inches to 15.6 inches, while the drivetrain is unchanged at 155kW, 288Nm and up to 430km of WLTP range.

Chery Motor Australia has updated the E5 electric SUV for the 2027 model year, adding a round of comfort, technology and convenience features. The changes cover the cabin and exterior. Chery has not made any changes to the drivetrain.

The 2027 E5 will have its first Australian public showing at Everything Electric at Sydney Olympic Park between 18 and 20 September. Chery has not yet confirmed local pricing or an on-sale date, saying further details will follow closer to the car's arrival in dealerships.

More comfortable front seats

The driver's seat now has four-way lumbar support, massage function and ventilation. The front passenger seat is upgraded from four-way to six-way power adjustment, and ventilation has been added to that seat as well.

Both front seats are trimmed in synthetic leather and the driver's seat and steering wheel carry over from the outgoing model, based on the equipment list Chery has released so far.

A bigger screen and more convenience features

The central infotainment display grows from 12.3 inches to 15.6 inches. Chery has not detailed the software running on the new screen although it is likely to resemble the system in the Jaecoo J5.

The E5 also gains an electrically operated charging port cover and an active grille shutter, a panel that opens and closes to manage airflow and improve aerodynamic efficiency. The interior rear-view mirror is upgraded to an automatic-dimming type.

No change to the powertrain

Chery has not made any changes to the E5's drivetrain for MY27. The car is powered by a single electric motor producing 155kW and 288Nm of torque, driving the front wheels. Claimed driving range is up to 430km on the WLTP test cycle, the same figure as the outgoing model.

How the Chery E5 compares

The E5 competes in a crowded field of affordable electric SUVs. The table below compares the current Chery E5 against the Jaecoo J5, BYD Atto 3 Evo, Leapmotor B10 and Geely EX5. Chery has not confirmed MY27 pricing, so the E5 figure below is the current driveaway price for the outgoing model.

The Jaecoo J5 shares Chery Group underpinnings with the E5 and uses the same 155kW/288Nm motor and a near-identical 402km WLTP range, at a lower starting price. The BYD Atto 3 Evo Dynamic, Leapmotor B10 Design Long Range and Geely EX5 Complete are priced higher but claim more WLTP range on paper.
