2026 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV front

Mitsubishi Motors Australia has announced significant updates to the Outlander Plug-In Hybrid EV (PHEV) for 2026, headlined by an enlarged battery pack and extended electric driving range. The updated model is scheduled to arrive in Australian showrooms during the first quarter of 2026.

Enhanced Powertrain and Battery Capacity

The most substantial change to the Outlander PHEV is the introduction of an upgraded lithium-ion battery pack with a total capacity of 22.7kWh, representing an increase over the previous generation. This larger battery enables a WLTP-tested electric-only range of 86 kilometres.

The powertrain combines two high-power electric motors with a 2.4-litre petrol engine. The engine can function as a generator or provide direct power to the front wheels, depending on driving conditions. An improved battery cooling system has also been implemented.

Australian-Tuned Suspension and Refinement Improvements

The updated Outlander PHEV features suspension and steering systems developed specifically for Australian road conditions, in conjunction with the internal combustion engine (ICE) model range. These locally-tuned dynamics are now being adopted globally.

Noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels have been addressed through several measures, including a new steel bonnet and front fenders that improve cabin noise insulation. Summer-specific Bridgestone tyres have been fitted to enhance on-road performance and refinement. The audio system has been upgraded to Dynamic Sound Yamaha technology across the range.
