MG has launched the MGS6 EV in Australia, entering the competitive mid-size electric SUV segment with two variants priced from $49,990 drive-away. The Essence RWD undercuts the Tesla Model Y Premium RWD ($58,900 before on-road costs) and BYD Sealion 7 Premium ($54,990 before on-roads) at the drive-away price. Both variants are available in dealerships from today, 25 May 2026.
The MGS6 EV is MG's third all-electric launch in 2026 and joins the MGS5 EV, IM6, MG4, MG4 EV Urban, IM5, and Cyberster in the local lineup. It replaces the Marvel R, which was sold in Europe but never offered in right-hand drive. MG Motor Australia has not published the battery chemistry, though overseas spec sheets confirm a 77kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) pack.
Pricing and Features
Both variants carry the Essence badge, which MG typically uses for its top specification. It is not yet confirmed whether lower-grade variants will follow.

Powertrain and range
The Essence RWD uses a single motor producing 180kW, with a 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds and 530km of WLTP range. The Essence AWD uses a dual-motor setup producing 266kW combined, reaching 100km/h in 5.1 seconds with 485km of WLTP range. Both variants support 144kW DC fast charging, reaching 10 to 80 per cent in 38 minutes on a 150kW charger. Both also include a heat pump, one-pedal drive mode, and adjustable regenerative braking.
Braked towing capacity is 1500kg and unbraked is 750kg across both variants.

Dimensions and design
The MGS6 EV measures 4708mm long, 1912mm wide, and 1664mm tall. Compared with the Tesla Model Y, it is 84mm shorter, 9mm wider, and 40mm taller. Suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and multi-link at the rear. The MGS6 EV rides on 20-inch alloy wheels with low wind-resistance caps.
The MGS6 EV shares its platform with the smaller MGS5 EV and MG4. It is available in seven exterior colours: Dover White (standard), Stratford Gold, Black Pearl, Camden Grey, Piccadilly Blue, Sterling Silver, and Diamond Red. Two interior palettes are available: Grey Ivory with Nordic Ashwood-style trim, and Dark with Carbon Fibre-style trim.


Interior and storage
Boot capacity is 581 litres, expanding to 1,690 litres with the rear seats folded. The frunk adds 86 litres on the RWD and 67 litres on the AWD. A panoramic fixed glass roof is standard across both variants.
Interior features include heated and ventilated front seats with vegan leather and suede upholstery, heated outer rear seats, an 11-speaker audio system with subwoofer, and ambient lighting.



Technology and Safety
The MGS6 EV uses a dual-screen layout: a 12.8-inch HD touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital driver display. Standard technology includes a head-up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 50W wireless smartphone charging, and voice control. The iSmart companion app provides connected services.
The MG Pilot suite includes active emergency braking, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and a 360-degree camera. MG Pilot Custom allows drivers to save their preferred driver assistance settings.

The MGS6 EV Essence RWD at $49,990 drive-away is the only model in this segment priced below $50,000 drive-away. Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7 pricing in the table below is before on-road costs. Geely EX5 pricing is also before on-road costs; drive-away pricing from dealers ranges from around $43,460 to $47,989 depending on location.

Warranty and ownership
Both MGS6 EV variants are covered by a 7-year unlimited-kilometre warranty. Owners who service within the MG dealer network can extend this to 10 years or 250,000km through the MG Service Activated Extended Warranty program.
