MG Motors Australia has revised its warranty for vehicles first registered from July 1, 2025 (excluding fleet and IM luxury EVs).
The updated terms for popular EVs including the MG4 and MGS5 introduce a dealer servicing requirement to access the full 10-year/250,000km warranty coverage.

New Warranty Structure
Non-Commercial Use:
- Full warranty: 10 years/250,000km (requires exclusive dealer servicing)
- Alternative warranty: 7 years/unlimited kilometres (allows independent servicing)
Commercial Use:
- 7 years/160,000km for most models
- 5 years/160,000km for the U9 model
- No dealer servicing requirement for commercial warranties
Comparison with Competitors
MG's warranty structure now aligns with similar programs offered by Nissan and Mitsubishi, which also require dealer servicing for their extended warranty coverage:
- Nissan: 10 years/300,000km (dealer servicing required) or 5 years/unlimited kilometres
- Mitsubishi: 10 years/200,000km (dealer servicing required) or 5 years/100,000km
What Remains Unchanged
The changes do not affect:
- Vehicles sold under the initial version of the 10-year warranty - introduced August 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025.
- Vehicles sold before August 1, 2024 (retain their original warranty terms)
- Commercial use warranties (no dealer servicing requirement)
Servicing Requirements
For customers choosing independent servicing while maintaining warranty coverage, MG requires that maintenance be conducted "using materials that meet MG Motor engineering specifications" - a standard requirement across the automotive industry.
Impact on Rural and Remote Customers
The dealer servicing requirement may particularly affect customers in rural or remote areas where MG dealerships are not readily accessible.
These customers may have no practical choice but to use independent service centres, which would limit them to the 7-year/unlimited kilometre warranty coverage rather than the full 10-year/250,000km warranty.
This creates a geographical disparity in warranty coverage, where customers in areas with limited dealer access effectively receive reduced warranty terms despite purchasing the same vehicle at the same price.
Company Statement
MG describes the changes as a "refreshed warranty offering designed to give Australian drivers exceptional value, more confidence, flexibility, ownership options and long-term industry-leading support."
The company emphasizes that non-commercial customers can still access up to 10 years or 250,000 kilometres of coverage through authorized dealer servicing, while commercial customers receive what MG calls "one of the strongest commercial warranties available in the market."
