Key Points
- GloBird's Easy EV plan offers a 6c/kWh charging rate during two daily windows: 11am to 2pm and 12am to 6am, every day of the week.
- The plan has no lock-in contract and is available to residential customers who own or have regular access to an electric vehicle.
- At 6c/kWh, the Easy EV rate matches the best overnight rates in Australia and adds a daytime window not offered by most competitors.
GloBird Energy has launched its Easy EV electricity plan, offering residential EV owners access to a 6c/kWh charging rate across two daily low-cost windows. The plan is available now with no lock-in contract.
Unlike most EV plans that only reward overnight charging, Easy EV includes a midday window as well, making it one of the few plans in Australia with low rates at both ends of the day.
Plan Rates and Charging Windows
The Easy EV plan centres on two low-cost charging periods, both priced at 6c/kWh including GST. Consumption under the low cost tariff is limited to 20kWh per day.
GloBird Easy EV Charging Windows
Charging Window | Rate (incl. GST) | Days |
11am to 2pm | 6c/kWh | Every day |
12am to 6am | 6c/kWh | Every day |
Consumption limit | Low rate limited to 20 kWh per day |
Across both windows, EV owners have access to nine hours of discounted charging every day. Standard rates apply outside these periods.
How Much Energy Do You Actually Need?
The two daily windows provide a combined nine hours of low-cost electricity and 20 kWh limit. A typical wall charger delivers around 7 to 22 kWh per hour depending on output, so even a short charging window is more than enough to top up most EVs.
The average Australian driver covers around 38 km per day, which requires roughly 7 kWh to recharge. The three-hour midday window alone delivers enough energy to cover that daily distance. The six-hour overnight window adds capacity for longer trips or higher daily use.
Average household electricity consumption in Australia sits at around 20 kWh per day. A 7 kW wall charger running through the overnight window can deliver around 42 kWh, comfortably covering both the average daily EV charge and most of a household's baseline energy use during those hours.
How Easy EV Compares to Other Plans
The 6c/kWh rate is one of the lowest overnight rates on the market. Based on the zecar comparison of current EV energy plans, here is where Easy EV sits:
EV Energy Plans Compared
Plan | Low-Cost Rate | Low-Cost Window(s) | Day and Night? |
GloBird Easy EV | 6c/kWh | 11am-2pm + 12am-6am | Yes |
Powershop EV Night | 5c/kWh | 12am-4am | Night only |
Engie EV Night Saver | 6c/kWh | 12am-6am | Night only |
OVO Energy The EV Plan | 4.5c/kWh night | 12am-6am | Yes |
GloBird Free Lunch | Free (0c/kWh) | 12pm-2pm | Day only |
AGL Night Saver EV | 8c/kWh | 12am-6am | Night only |
GloBird's 6c/kWh rate is behind OVO Energy The EV Plan on overnight pricing, but has the added benefit of a daytime window. The other plan with a lower per-kWh rate is Powershop EV Night at 5c/kWh, though that window covers only four hours and is overnight only.
Who Can Sign Up
The Easy EV plan is available to residential customers in GloBird's service areas who own or have regular access to an electric vehicle. It is not available to business or commercial customers.
As with most time-of-use plans, you will need a smart meter installed at your premises. GloBird can arrange a smart meter upgrade as part of the sign-up process. There is no lock-in contract.
GloBird recommends a dedicated wall charger to make the most of the low-cost windows. A 7 kW wall charger can deliver around 21 kWh in three hours, compared to roughly 6 kWh from a standard 10-amp powerpoint over the same period.
Value Beyond the Car
GloBird positions Easy EV as a whole-household plan rather than just an EV tariff. The low-cost windows can cover dishwashers, air conditioning, and other high-draw appliances, not only vehicle charging.
The 11am to 2pm window aligns with peak solar generation hours in Australia. For households with rooftop solar, this window can reduce grid draw while charging the EV or running daytime appliances at minimal cost.
How to Sign Up
You can sign up to Easy EV directly through GloBird's website at globirdenergy.com.au/energy-saver/easy-ev. You can also call GloBird on 133 456 to check eligibility for your postcode.
