Genesis Motors Australia has launched the GV60 Magma, the brand's first high-performance production model and the flagship of its all-electric GV60 range. It is priced from $130,000 before on-road costs and is available to order now.
GV60 Magma is the first model from Genesis' new Magma performance sub-brand, which plays a similar role to Mercedes-AMG or BMW M. It shares its running gear with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, including the 84kWh battery, electronic limited-slip differential, and Virtual Gear Shift and Drift Mode functions.
Pricing
GV60 Magma is offered in a single, highly equipped specification with an 84kWh battery and all-wheel drive. Matte paint is a $4,000 option. All prices below are before on-road costs and include Luxury Car Tax where applicable. As it sits above the LCT it won’t be eligible for the EV FBT exemption.

Variant | Price | Battery | Powertrain | WLTP range | 0-100km/h |
GV60 Advanced RWD | $88,300 | 84kWh | 168kW/350Nm RWD | 561km | 7.8s |
GV60 Magma AWD | $130,000 | 84kWh | 448kW/740Nm* AWD | N/A | 3.4s |
*478kW/790Nm in Boost Mode
Genesis has not published an official WLTP range figure for GV60 Magma. Given the shared powertrain and 84kWh battery and weigh almost the same (Magma +20kg), it is likely to land close to the Ioniq 5 N's 448km.

GV60 Magma's front and rear motors produce a combined 448kW and 740Nm. Activating Boost Mode lifts outputs to 478kW and 790Nm for around 15 seconds, cutting the 0-100km/h time to a claimed 3.4 seconds using Launch Control. Genesis claims 0-200km/h in 10.9 seconds and a 264km/h top speed.
The car offers three drive modes: Sprint, GT and MY. In MY Mode, drivers can adjust settings for the electronic limited-slip differential, Electronic Stability Control and other performance parameters.
GV60 Magma is built on the same 800V E-GMP platform as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, and the two cars share power and torque outputs, battery capacity, and several performance features.
Design and Styling
GV60 Magma is distinguished by a wider stance, lower ride height, and motorsport-inspired styling. A three-hole front bumper with canard wings, aerodynamic side skirts, forged 21-inch alloy wheels on 275mm Pirelli P Zero tyres, and a winglet-style rear spoiler set it apart from the rest of the GV60 range.
The hero colour is Magma Orange. Other exterior options include Uyuni White, Saville Silver, Makalu Grey, Vik Black, Tromso Green and Ceres Blue, plus three matte finishes: Matterhorn White, Makalu Grey and Ceres Blue.

Interior
Inside, the seats, door trims and centre console are trimmed in suede-like Chamude, with orange and grey stitching, quilting and seatbelt detailing. The steering wheel is Magma-specific, with a black emblem and orange accents on the drive mode and boost buttons.
Interior trim is Obsidian Black Mono upholstery, with a choice of Magma Orange or Ash White stitching and black brushed aluminium garnishes.

Technology
A 27-inch Integrated Wide Display combines the instrument cluster and infotainment screen. Activating Magma Mode switches the cluster to a three-circle dial layout showing motor and battery temperature, speed and G-force. The head-up display shows speed, regenerative braking level and remaining Boost Mode time.
Virtual Gear Shift adjusts motor output, torque and regenerative braking to mimic the feel of a combustion gearbox, with simulated engine sound. Drift Mode combines power distribution and limited-slip differential control for rear-wheel-focused driving, while High-Performance Battery Control keeps the battery at an optimal temperature under sustained hard use.
Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0 uses map, traffic and navigation data to adjust regen force. Other features include Micro Lens Array headlights, Digital Key 2.0 with NFC and ultra-wideband support for up to 15 shared devices, and over-the-air update coverage for 45 vehicle systems, up from 18 previously.

Chassis, Brakes and Refinement
Suspension has been recalibrated compared with other GV60 variants, with Stroke-Sensing Electronic Control Suspension and End-of-Travel control. Hydro G-Bushings at the front and dual-layer bushings in the rear crossmember are designed to cut down on impact and vibration.
Braking is handled by 400mm front and 360mm rear disc brakes with monoblock calipers, bringing the car to a stop from 100km/h in a claimed 33.8 metres. Sport Mode removes the initial free stroke for a firmer pedal and increases braking power by around 15 percent at high speed. Cabin refinement is aided by Active Noise Control, laminated acoustic glass and reinforced door sealing.

How It Compares
GV60 Magma enters a small field of high-performance electric SUVs and sedans. It costs about $20,000 more than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, its closest technical relative, and roughly $40,000 more than the Tesla Model Y Performance.

Kia has flagged a power increase for the facelifted EV6 GT to 478kW/770Nm with boost, but this has not been confirmed for the Australian market at time of writing. Figures above reflect the currently confirmed local specification.
GV60 Magma is the most expensive of the four and the only one from a luxury brand, positioning it closer to premium performance SUVs than mainstream hot EVs. It undercuts petrol-powered performance SUVs from Porsche and BMW's M division on price while matching or beating them on outright acceleration.
