Hyundai Australia has announced significant updates to its IONIQ 5 electric vehicle lineup for 2026, dramatically simplifying the range from 14 variants down to just three core models. The streamlined lineup brings Digital Key 2.0 smartphone entry as standard across all variants, while the high-performance IONIQ 5 N consolidates to a single, fully-loaded specification with MY25 updates.

The changes represent a major shift in Hyundai's approach to the IONIQ 5, making it easier for consumers to choose the right model while ensuring premium features like smartphone-based keyless entry are accessible to all buyers.

Simplified Lineup Makes Choosing Easier

"We've listened to customer feedback and streamlined our IONIQ 5 lineup to make the decision-making process simpler," said Gavin Donaldson, Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Operating Officer. "By reducing complexity and making premium features like Digital Key 2.0 standard across the range, we're delivering better value and a more premium ownership experience for all IONIQ 5 customers."

The 2026 IONIQ 5 range now consists of three clearly differentiated variants: Dynamiq, Elite, and Epiq. This replaces the previous complex structure that included multiple battery sizes, drivetrain configurations, and trim levels across 14 different combinations.

New Model Naming Structure

The Dynamiq serves as the entry point, replacing the previous RWD and RWD Extended Range models. It features rear-wheel drive with the larger 84kWh battery pack, offering an optimal balance of range and value.

Elite sits in the middle of the range, taking over from the AWD Extended Range variant. It adds all-wheel drive capability while maintaining the 84kWh battery for maximum versatility.

Epiq tops the standard IONIQ 5 lineup, replacing the previous Techniq AWD Extended Range. It includes all premium features and represents the flagship specification for non-N models.

Hyundai Digital Key 2.0: Standard Across the Range

One of the most significant updates for 2026 is the standardization of Hyundai Digital Key 2.0 across all IONIQ 5 variants. This advanced smartphone-based access system eliminates the need to carry a traditional key fob.

How Digital Key 2.0 Works

Digital Key 2.0 utilises two complementary wireless technologies: Near Field Communication (NFC) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB). NFC enables touch-to-unlock functionality, allowing drivers to unlock the vehicle by placing their smartphone against the door handle. UWB provides passive entry, automatically unlocking the vehicle as the driver approaches with their phone in their pocket or bag.

The system works through the myHyundai app, which securely stores the digital key on compatible smartphones. Once configured, the phone becomes a fully functional vehicle key, enabling locking, unlocking, and engine start functions.

Device Compatibility

Digital Key 2.0 is compatible with select iPhone and Android devices. iPhone users require an iPhone XS or newer running iOS 16 or later. Android compatibility varies by manufacturer, with Samsung Galaxy S21 and newer, Google Pixel 6 and newer, and select other UWB-equipped Android devices supported.

The digital key can be shared with up to three additional users, making it convenient for families or when lending the vehicle to friends. Shared keys can be configured with time restrictions and feature limitations for added security.

IONIQ 5 N MY25 Updates

The 2026 IONIQ 5 N receives several meaningful updates as part of the MY25 refresh, enhancing both functionality and driving dynamics.

LED Headlights with Intelligent Front-Lighting System

The N variant now features advanced LED headlights with Intelligent Front-Lighting System (IFS). This technology automatically adjusts the beam pattern based on vehicle speed, steering angle, and road conditions, optimizing visibility without dazzling oncoming traffic.

Enhanced Convenience Features

Auto up/down functionality has been added to all four windows, a welcome convenience upgrade. The driver can now fully open or close any window with a single touch, rather than holding the switch.

A new haptic steering wheel provides tactile feedback for various vehicle functions, enhancing the connection between driver and machine. The haptic feedback works in conjunction with the N-specific drive modes and performance features.

N Drift Optimiser Pro

The IONIQ 5 N introduces N Drift Optimiser Pro, an advanced version of the drift mode that provides even more precise control over power delivery and torque vectoring. This system allows skilled drivers to maintain controlled drifts with greater consistency and adjustability.

N Active Sound Updates

The N Active Sound system has been refined with new sound profiles that more accurately simulate high-performance internal combustion engines. The system now offers improved sound quality and more realistic audio feedback across the rev range, enhancing the emotional connection to the driving experience.

Exterior Colour Options

The 2026 IONIQ 5 introduces a new exterior colour option: Celadon Grey Matte. This sophisticated matte finish adds a premium, contemporary aesthetic to the IONIQ 5's distinctive retro-futuristic design.

The IONIQ 5 N receives its own exclusive colour: Performance Blue. This vibrant hue emphasizes the N variant's sporting character and distinguishes it from the standard range.

Standard colours remain available at no additional cost, while premium and matte finishes command a surcharge.

The Elite variant offers an optional light-coloured interior package for buyers seeking a brighter, more airy cabin atmosphere. This option includes light grey upholstery and complementary trim elements.

The IONIQ 5 N maintains its exclusive N-specific interior with performance seats, N-branded steering wheel, and unique trim finishes that reinforce its sporting credentials.
