Flexicar Goes Green: Electric Vehicle Trial Debuts in Adelaide

Comments

Hertz subsidiary Flexicar, a membership-based car-sharing service which competes with GoGet, is implementing its first Electric Vehicle (EV) trial in Australia.

The program begins November 14 in Adelaide, with two Polestar 2 EVs located at Banksia Apartments in Glenside, developed by Cedar Woods.

The initiative at Banksia Apartments includes two charging stations at 9 Banksia St Glenside. Members can access the vehicles through the Flexicar mobile application.

According to Eoin MacNeill, Vice President of Flexicar:

"Electric vehicle demand continues to grow among Australians seeking sustainable transportation alternatives. Many potential users express concern about charging capacity during rentals".
"Since Flexicar vehicles are typically used for shorter trips, this trial addresses those concerns while providing an opportunity to experience EV technology firsthand".
"The support from private enterprise enables the expansion of such programs, and we anticipate exploring similar implementations in other Australian cities."

The service provides Adelaide residents and visitors with an alternative to traditional vehicle ownership.

The EVs are available for reservation 24/7, offering both hourly bookings with unlimited kilometres and daily rentals with specified kilometre allowances.

The rental fees include charging costs, vehicle maintenance, and round-the-clock roadside assistance.

Users can access the service through the Flexicar application, available on both Android and iOS platforms.

Licensed drivers may register via the app or website. The system allows for smartphone-based vehicle booking and unlocking.

Each vehicle must be returned to its designated parking space after use. The service includes technical support through both the application and a dedicated call center.

The program operates from the Banksia Apartments charging stations, integrating car-sharing infrastructure within residential development.

This arrangement aims to provide convenient access while supporting sustainable transportation options.
