Hyundai just made charging your EV a whole lot simpler. The Korean carmaker is rolling out new plug-and-charge and in-app payment features that bring it closer to the seamless experience Tesla owners have long enjoyed and it’s not just for future models.
If you’ve got a Hyundai EV, things are about to get much easier.

Charging like a Tesla (no cards, no hassle)
From now on, Hyundai EV drivers in the US can plug in at a compatible charger and walk away, no apps and no tapping cards. It’s thanks to “plug-and-charge” functionality, which automatically starts charging and handles payment when the car connects. Think Tesla-style ease, now for the IONIQ range and beyond.
Alongside that, Hyundai has added direct payment and charger access through its MyHyundai with Bluelink app. Drivers can:
- Locate public chargers
- Plan trips with EV charging in mind
- Send navigation to the car’s screen
- Start and monitor charging sessions in-app
This means no more bouncing between third-party apps or fumbling with credit cards, the Hyundai app handles it all.

Where does it work?
The plug-and-charge feature and app-based charging work across major charging networks in the US, including:
- Tesla Superchargers (via NACS adapter)
- IONNA (Hyundai’s joint venture network)
- ChargePoint
- EVgo (note: plug-and-charge not yet supported)
More networks are expected to be added as Hyundai expands its charging partnerships globally. These features are currently US-only, but their success could influence rollouts in other markets like Australia.

First models to benefit
The new tech debuts with:
- 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5
- 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9
Both models feature native NACS (North American Charging Standard) ports, removing the need for adapters to use Tesla’s rapidly expanding charging network.
Free Tesla adapter for early buyers
To sweeten the deal, Hyundai previously announced it would provide a free NACS adapter to all EV customers who bought or leased an eligible model before January 31, 2025. That includes the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and even the original IONIQ electric hatch.
That means thousands of current Hyundai EV drivers will soon be able to plug into Tesla Superchargers.

What's next for Australia?
While these new features are US-specific for now, Hyundai has confirmed that all future IONIQ and EV models will include them meaning Australian buyers of next-gen models like the IONIQ 9 could see similar tech soon.
The challenge will be Hyundai's local software development will need to integrate with multiple charge-point operators in Australia including: Tesla, ChargeFox and NRMA.
