Hyundai has officially launched its all-new INSTER electric vehicle in Australia, introducing a compact SUV that combines modern styling with practical EV technology at an accessible price point.

Starting at $39,000 plus on-road costs, the INSTER aims to attract buyers looking for an entry-level electric vehicle with substantial features and capability.
Zecar's Neerav Bhatt accidentally came across two production specification testing cars of the new Hyundai INSTER recently. This is a video walkaround overview of the car features.
The new model is available in three variants: Standard Range, Extended Range, and the adventure-focused Cross.
The Standard Range version delivers 71.1kW of power from its front-wheel-drive motor, paired with a 42kWh battery that provides up to 327km of driving range.
Stepping up to the Extended Range brings 84.5kW of power and a larger 49kWh battery, extending the range to 360km.

All INSTER models come equipped with fast-charging capability, allowing the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 30 minutes when connected to a suitable DC charging station.
"All-new INSTER distils the progressive style and advanced technology of the award-winning Hyundai EV range into a striking compact SUV, which we're excited to add to our local line-up," said Hyundai Motor Company Australia Chief Executive Officer, Don Romano.

Technology and Features
Despite its position as Hyundai's entry-level EV, the INSTER comes generously equipped with modern technology. All variants feature dual 10.25-inch displays. One serving as a digital instrument cluster and the other as an infotainment touchscreen with navigation.

The vehicle incorporates Hyundai's Bluelink Connected Car Services with a complimentary five year subscription, offering features such as automatic collision notification, emergency call function, remote climate control, live traffic updates, and over-the-air navigation updates.
A comprehensive suite of Hyundai SmartSense safety systems comes standard, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Highway Driving Assist, Lane Following Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance.
The INSTER Cross variant adds additional safety features such as Blind-Spot View Monitor and Surround View Monitor (360 camera).
Interior and Practicality
The INSTER's interior emphasizes versatility with bench-style front seating and 50:50 split-fold rear seats that both slide and recline. The Cross variant takes flexibility further with all four seats capable of folding flat for maximum cargo space.

Hyundai has incorporated several EV-specific features, including Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality that allows users to power external devices and equipment.
Adjustable regenerative braking via paddle shifters provides drivers with control over energy recuperation when slowing down.
Design Elements
The exterior design includes distinctive round pixel LED headlamps, pixel-graphic turn signals, and muscular skid plates.
The adventure-oriented Cross variant adds enhanced bumpers, reinforced skid plates, black side cladding, and roof racks, with an optional Roof Basket Option Pack available exclusively for this model.

Environmental considerations are evident in the use of eco-friendly high-gloss recycled paint made from waste tires, while interior upholstery options include cloth made from recycled PET in the Standard and Extended Range models, and bio-artificial leather in the Cross variant.
Market Positioning and Competition
The INSTER enters a growing segment of compact electric SUVs in Australia, where it will compete directly with similarly priced models such as the MG4, GWM Ora, and BYD Dolphin.
All these vehicles target budget-conscious EV buyers looking for practical electric transportation without the premium price tag of larger electric models.
With its combination of technology features, practical interior space, and distinctive styling, Hyundai positions the INSTER as "a versatile choice for both city commuters and those looking to explore beyond urban limits," according to Romano.
The Hyundai INSTER is available now at Hyundai dealerships across Australia.
