BYD Launches National Roadside Service With Motoring Groups

Comments

Electric vehicle maker BYD is expanding its support network in Australia, launching a national roadside assistance program aimed at giving EV owners more peace of mind.

The program is available around the clock and is backed by Australian Motoring Services (AMS), the country’s largest roadside support provider. AMS is a partnership between some of Australia's biggest motoring clubs, including NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RAA, and RACT.

Round-the-Clock Support for BYD Drivers

The new roadside assistance service will cover common issues such as:

  • Flat batteries
  • Tyre changes
  • Towing
  • Mechanical breakdowns
  • General support for unexpected roadside problems

All customers who purchase a new BYD vehicle from 22 July 2025 onwards will receive 12 months of complimentary roadside assistance, with the option to renew the service annually.

Stephen Collins, Chief Operating Officer at BYD Australia, says the initiative is part of a wider push to improve the ownership experience. “While our vehicles are engineered for reliability, we know how important it is to offer dependable support when things don’t go to plan,” he said.

Improving Customer Experience

This move follows BYD’s decision to take back control of its local distribution operations and significantly grow its dealer footprint. The company is also tripling its dealer network and doubling its customer service team, aiming to offer more direct and efficient service nationwide.

“These upgrades are part of our long-term commitment to Australian drivers,” Collins said. “We want every customer to feel supported — not just at the dealership, but every day they’re on the road.”

AMS CEO Rebecca Stenhouse believes the partnership sets a strong foundation for EV support. “As electric vehicle adoption grows in Australia, it’s essential to build the right support systems,” she said.

“Our roadside teams are trained, equipped, and ready to assist with everything from flat tyres to more complex EV issues. With BYD, we’re offering drivers confidence and security wherever they go.”
