Key Points

  • New X1 xDrive25e PHEV joins the lineup with 180kW combined power and up to 86km electric range
  • iX1 and iX2 electric models get new silicon carbide inverters for better efficiency
  • Updated models arrive mid-2026 with higher specification levels

BMW has updated its X1 and X2 model ranges for 2026. The biggest news is the new X1 xDrive25e plug-in hybrid. The fully electric iX1 and iX2 also get efficiency improvements.

New X1 xDrive25e PHEV

The X1 xDrive25e is BMW's new entry-level plug-in hybrid. It combines a three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and 14.2kWh battery.

The system produces 180kW of combined power. The electric motor alone contributes 80kW. Total torque is 477Nm.

In electric-only mode, the X1 xDrive25e can travel between 78 and 86 kilometres on the WLTP test cycle. That's enough for most daily commutes without using petrol.

The battery supports up to 11kW AC charging. It works with both single-phase and three-phase power. A full charge takes one hour and 45 minutes.

Fuel consumption ranges from 6.3 to 7.1 litres per 100km. CO2 emissions are between 143 and 159 grams per kilometres.

The X1 xDrive25e accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 6.8 seconds. It uses a seven-speed Steptronic transmission and BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system.

iX1 and iX2 Electric Models

The fully electric iX1 xDrive30 and iX2 xDrive30 get new silicon carbide inverters. These improve efficiency and extend battery range.

Silicon carbide technology increases power density. It also reduces energy loss during conversion. This means more of the battery's energy reaches the wheels.

Both models produce 230kW of power and 494Nm of torque. They use dual motors for all-wheel drive.
