Do EV electricity plans in Victoria need a smart meter?
Yes. Every EV plan in our Victorian table needs a smart meter. Most Victorian homes already have one after the state-wide smart meter rollout, so you can usually switch without an upgrade.
What is the Victorian Default Offer and does it affect EV plans?
The Victorian Default Offer is a reference electricity price set each year by the Essential Services Commission. Retailers must offer it, and market plans, including EV plans, must show how their prices compare with it. It does not set EV charging rates, but it gives you a benchmark when you compare plans.
Which Victorian networks offer EV time-of-use tariffs?
All five Victorian distribution networks, CitiPower, Powercor, United Energy, Jemena and AusNet Services, have time-of-use tariffs that EV plans run on. Most of the EV plans in our table are available on all five networks, but rates differ by network.
Is Solar Sharer coming to Victoria?
Not yet. Solar Sharer started in NSW, south-east Queensland and South Australia from July 2026, and the federal government plans to extend it to Victoria. Until then, Victorian plans with free daytime windows, such as OVO The Free 4 Plan, GloBird Four4Free, Powershop EV Day and Red Energy Red Power5, offer a similar benefit.
