Best EV Electricity Plans NSW 2026 | Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy & Essential Energy Compared

By Danny Thai|June 10, 2026

This guide covers EV electricity plans available to NSW residents only. Plan availability in NSW depends on which electricity network services your address: Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy or Essential Energy. Not all plans listed in our national EV electricity plans guide are available in all three NSW networks, so checking your network before signing up is essential.

NSW has one of the highest concentrations of rooftop solar in Australia, which directly shapes the EV tariff market here. Retailers compete on daytime free-charging windows to soak up solar generation, and the Ausgrid network in particular has the widest selection of EV-specific plans. Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy customers have fewer options, especially those in regional NSW on the Essential Energy network.

The average NSW electricity customer switching to a dedicated EV tariff could save close to $1,000 per year on charging costs compared to a standard flat-rate plan.

How to Choose the Best EV Electricity Plan in NSW

The right EV electricity plan for NSW residents depends on your charging habits, which network you're on, and whether you have solar. Below is a breakdown of which plans suit different drivers across the Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy networks.

Best for Overnight Charging in NSW

If you usually charge your EV at night, these plans offer the lowest off-peak rates in NSW. All five plans below are available to Ausgrid customers. Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy customers should confirm plan availability with the retailer before switching, as network coverage varies.

  • EnergyAustralia EV Night Boost (7c/kWh from 12am-6am)
  • Engie EV Night Saver (6c/kWh from 12am-6am)
  • AGL Night Saver EV Energy Plan (8c/kWh from 12am-6am)
  • Powershop EV Night (5c/kWh from 12am-4am)
  • OVO Energy The EV Plan (6c/kWh from 12am-6am)

Best for Daytime Charging in NSW

NSW consistently has the strongest daytime tariff market in Australia because of the volume of rooftop solar pushing midday prices to near zero. According to the Clean Energy Council, NSW holds the highest cumulative installed capacity of rooftop PV, accounting for roughly 27.9% of the national total. These plans are well suited to households without solar that want to benefit from that surplus generation. Daytime free windows are most widely available to Ausgrid customers; coverage is more limited across Endeavour and Essential networks.

  • Globird Free Lunch (free charging 12-2pm)
  • Powershop EV Day (free charging 12-2pm)
  • Ovo Energy Basic Free Plan (free charging 11am-2pm)

Below is an example of a daytime charging plan which has a free charging window from 11am to 2pm and a flat tariff for the remainder of the day.

What You Need to Access These Plans

Most EV-specific energy plans require:

A smart meter – Tracks electricity use by time of day, often upgraded for free

Time-of-use tariff – Charges different rates for peak, off-peak, and shoulder periods

An EV registered at the address – Some providers require proof of EV ownership

While none of these plans require a dedicated EV wall charger, installing one can help maximise the benefits of short free-charging windows by speeding up charge times.

BONUS TIP: Consider installing a dedicated wall charger to take advantage of discounted charging windows. For example a typical wall charger can deliver 21 kWh of energy in a three hour window compared to 6 kWh from a standard powerpoint.
