2026 Polestar 4 EV Released For Australia

2026 Polestar 4 electric SUV front three-quarter view

Polestar’s most popular model, the Polestar 4, has been refined for 2026, bringing upgraded tech, fresh design touches, and a focus on driver feedback—all while holding its price steady. The updated electric SUV lands in Australian showrooms later this year, starting from $78,500 for the Long Range Single Motor and $88,350 for the Dual Motor.

At a time when rivals such as Audi and Porsche have raised the luxury EV price ceiling, Polestar’s decision to keep pricing unchanged feels deliberate. The move positions the 4 well below competitors like the Audi Q6 e-tron ($99,900) and Porsche Macan Electric ($129,800), allowing it to retain its appeal as the premium EV that doesn’t overreach.

From Touch to Tactile

One of the biggest updates for 2026 is the return of physical buttons to the steering wheel. The previous touch-sensitive controls, criticised for being overly sensitive, have been replaced with traditional switches for a more intuitive, driver-friendly experience.

The cabin also receives subtle ambient lighting improvements, including an illuminated Polestar logo and upgraded high-level lighting. Boot net pockets are no longer standard, now bundled within the optional Plus Pack for $8000.

That pack remains a popular choice, bundling premium features such as pixel LED headlights, adaptive high beam, a hands-free tailgate, auto-dimming mirrors, a 1200W Harman Kardon sound system, rear-seat climate control, heated steering wheel, and 22kW AC charging.

Performance & Options Tailored To Enthusiasts

Power and performance remain unchanged, but the options list has evolved. The $7200 Performance Pack, exclusive to the Dual Motor variant, now requires pairing with the Plus Pack. It adds sport-tuned suspension, active dampers, Brembo brakes, 22-inch alloys, and Polestar’s signature Swedish Gold detailing.

For those after luxury over lap times, Nappa leather trim has dropped in price to $6100 in Zinc or $5700 in Charcoal. Choosing this option unlocks ventilated and massaging front seats, softer headrests, and embedded headrest speakers—a detail borrowed from luxury flagships.

The electrochromatic glass roof, now priced at $2200, has also become more affordable, and other add-ons include a retractable towbar, privacy glass, and colour-coded lower cladding.

Proven Powertrains Stay The Course

Polestar has kept its mechanical formula intact. The Long Range Single Motor variant produces 200kW and 343Nm from its rear-mounted motor, paired with a 94kWh battery good for up to 620km of WLTP range. It reaches 100km/h in 7.1 seconds.

The Dual Motor model doubles the power output to 400kW and 686Nm, dropping the sprint time to 3.8 seconds while maintaining a range of 590km. The consistency signals confidence that Polestar believes it has the right balance of performance and range.

Local Momentum Outpaces Global Turbulence

In Australia, the Polestar 4 has quietly become the brand’s backbone. Between January and September 2025, it accounted for 1,033 sales, surpassing both the Polestar 2 with 661 units and the Polestar 3 with 173 units.

Globally, the situation is more complicated. Despite achieving 44,482 deliveries in the first nine months of 2025, up from 32,595 the year before, Polestar continues to face challenges abroad. Reports suggest a potential withdrawal from China after recording only 69 sales in the first half of the year, along with the closure of its UK technical centre where the Polestar 5 sedan was developed.
