Polestar has officially unveiled its Polestar 5, a four-door electric Grand Tourer set to take on the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-Tron GT. Australian buyers can already place orders, with launch editions priced from $186,800 drive-away, ahead of first deliveries in spring 2026.

The Polestar 5 promises more than striking Scandinavian design. It introduces the brand’s first 800-volt platform, faster charging speeds, and power figures that firmly place it in performance EV territory.

Performance powertrain with dual personalities

Two versions of the Polestar 5 will launch in Australia, both featuring dual-motor all-wheel drive and a 112 kWh lithium-ion battery.

  • The Dual Motor variant produces 550 kW and 812 Nm, sprinting from 0–100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
  • The Performance variant increases output to 650 kW and 1,015 Nm, cutting the 0–100 km/h time to 3.2 seconds.

Both are electronically limited to 250 km/h. Range differs by variant, with the Dual Motor covering up to 670 km (WLTP), while the Performance version offers 565 km.

Charging is another highlight: the 800 V system enables 350 kW DC fast charging, taking the battery from 10–80% in just 22 minutes.

Luxury meets sustainability inside

The Polestar 5’s cabin has been designed as a 4+1 seating layout, with four primary seats co-developed with Recaro and a central rear armrest that can convert into a fifth seat when needed.

Comfort features include four-zone climate control, seat heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Materials combine premium finishes with sustainable fabrics, aligning with Polestar’s environmental goals.

Technology is anchored by a 14.5-inch portrait infotainment display running Polestar’s Android Automotive OS with Google built in. Drivers also gain a digital cluster and rotary controller for tactile input.

For audio, a 10-speaker Polestar High Performance system comes standard, while an optional 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup ($8,800) introduces tweeters-on-top, 1,680 W output, and active noise cancellation.

Advanced safety and driver assistance

Polestar equips the 5 with its SmartZone sensor suite, incorporating radar, cameras, and a forward-facing parking system. Pilot Assist supports semi-automated driving at speeds of up to 150 km/h.

The system combines 11 cameras, one driver monitoring camera, a mid-range radar, and 12 ultrasonic sensors for enhanced safety and lane-keeping performance.

Externally, the Polestar 5 retains much of the Precept concept’s aerodynamic profile, with a wing-like silhouette and Kamm-style tail contributing to efficiency.
