On its 15th anniversary, Xiaomi pulled the covers off its first electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, a premium mid-to-large electric SUV that follows the successful SU7 sedan.
Packed with power, cutting-edge tech, and luxury cabin features, the YU7 is a shot across the bow to both traditional automakers and EV startups.

A Serious Step Up from the SU7
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirmed that over 258,000 units of the SU7 have already been delivered, and with the YU7, the brand is now taking on larger, family-friendly EVs. While pricing will be officially revealed in July 2025, Lei was quick to quash rumours of a ¥199,000 ($27,600 USD) starting price, so expect something more premium.

Powertrain Options: From Quick to Wild
Xiaomi’s YU7 will be offered in three powertrain configurations, with all versions running on an 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform and using high-performance V6s Plus motors.
Variant | Drivetrain | Power | Torque | 0–100 km/h | Top Speed |
YU7 RWD | Rear-wheel | 235 kW | 528 Nm | 5.88 sec | 240 km/h |
YU7 Pro AWD | Dual-motor AWD | 365 kW | 690 Nm | 4.27 sec | 240 km/h |
YU7 Max AWD | Dual-motor AWD | 508 kW | 866 Nm | 3.23 sec | 253 km/h |
The Max variant uses dual motors (220 kW front + 295 kW rear), supplied by United Automotive Electronics (UAES).
Charging and Range: Fast and Far
Thanks to its 5.2C fast-charging capability, the YU7 can add up to 620 km of range in just 15 minutes. Here’s how each variant stacks up:
Variant | Battery Type | Capacity | Range (CLTC) |
RWD | LFP | 96.3 kWh | 835 km |
Pro AWD | LFP | 96.3 kWh | 770 km |
Max AWD | NCM | 101.7 kWh | 760 km |
That kind of charging performance is right up there with the industry’s best.

Safety Tech and Hardware
Xiaomi isn’t playing around with structural safety either. The YU7 is built like a tank — or at least an “armour cage,” as they put it.
Safety Feature | Detail |
Chassis Material | Hybrid steel-aluminium body |
Front Frame | 20-in-1 aluminium die-cast |
Battery Pack | Reinforced with bullet-resistant coating |
Structural Enhancements | 2200 MPa ultra-high-strength roll cage |
Crash Testing | 50+ passive safety tests conducted |
Assisted driving is handled by Lidar, 4D mmWave radar, and ALD-coated anti-glare cameras, paired with Nvidia’s Drive AGX Thor (700 TOPS). Xiaomi’s own end-to-end AD system rounds out a well-integrated, future-ready platform.

A Delayed Debut
Originally set for a grand debut at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, the YU7's public appearance was pushed back following a fatal incident involving a Xiaomi autonomous test vehicle. Internal reviews followed, and the official unveiling was moved to May 22.
