Toyota has cut prices for its bZ4X electric SUV by up to $10,000. The move comes despite a major update that brings more power, longer range, and extra features.
The entry-level single-motor front-wheel drive version now costs $55,990 before on-road costs. That's a reduction of $10,010. The dual-motor all-wheel drive model now costs $67,990 plus on-roads. That's down $6,910. The updated range is now on sale.
The price cuts follow similar moves by Subaru for the related Solterra. Subaru cut prices by between $6,000 and $7,000.
The updated bZ4X comes with a new 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery and more powerful electric motors. Both FWD and AWD variants benefit from the upgrades.

What's New on the Outside
The bZ4X features updated exterior styling. It now wears a version of Toyota's latest 'hammerhead' family face.
The base bZ4X 2WD gains new 18-inch alloy wheels. It also gets roof rails, puddle lights, headlight cleaners, and gloss black wheel arches.
The bZ4X AWD gets new 20-inch alloy wheels.
Premium paint costs $595 across the range. The AWD is also available with a two-tone exterior finish for $1,350.

Interior and Technology Updates
Inside, there's a larger 14.0-inch infotainment touchscreen. The previous model had a 12.3-inch screen.
Other new features include paddle shifters, two wireless phone chargers, a heated steering wheel, and a hands-free power tailgate. There's also a 1,500W inverter in the luggage area to power small appliances.

Safety Equipment
Additional safety equipment now comes standard on both models. This includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, and a surround-view camera. These features were previously exclusive to the bZ4X AWD. A driver monitoring camera has also been added.
Incentives and Offers
Toyota is offering private buyers a choice between a free 7kW Jet Charge home charger or a one-year/625kWh Chargefox voucher. This offer runs through the Toyota Go loyalty program until the end of 2026.
Toyota is also offering a limited-time deposit contribution. Private customers who finance through Toyota Finance Australia can get $5,000 off the bZ4X 2WD or $7,500 off the AWD.
The Price Cut Reversal
The price cuts mark a reversal for Toyota. The Japanese brand said in July 2024 it had no plans to slash bZ4X prices despite slow sales.
Toyota Australia vice president Sean Hanley said in September 2024 that price cuts were not good practice. 'It's a difficult proposition for people that have bought a car, and then you wind it back not once, not twice, but three times. I think that is not a good practice, and not a practice Toyota will be going down,' he said.
'That erodes confidence and trust, and we pride ourselves on the trust we've built. Reducing pricing or putting massive incentives on is the laziest option first up.'
Toyota Australia delivered just 977 bZ4X units in 2024 and 858 in the first 11 months of 2025 (22nd best selling EV model in Australia). The company had initially expected to deliver several thousand units.

2026 Toyota bZ4X AWD | $67,990 | -$6,910 |
What's Coming Next
The bZ4X will be joined by the bZ4X Touring in the second quarter of 2026. This model has a more traditional wagon body. Subaru's version, the Trailseeker, has not yet been confirmed for Australia.

zecar's take
The updated bZ4X is a much better vehicle than the original. More power, longer range, and better equipment make it more appealing. But the price cuts were necessary. At the old prices, the bZ4X struggled to compete.
The real question is whether these cuts come too late. Toyota has lost valuable time in the EV market. Competitors have established strong positions. The bZ4X needs to prove it can win back buyers who may have already moved to other brands.
The improved specifications bring it in line with its EV peers. The 591km range for the 2WD model puts it among the leaders in its class. The doubled towing capacity for the AWD model also addresses a key weakness.
