Tesla has recorded its best monthly result in 2025 reporting 3,897 deliveries across Australia in the month of May. The resurgence follows a sluggish start to 2025, driven largely by delayed arrivals of the refreshed Model Y.
Nearly 92% of last month’s deliveries were the Model Y, with 3,580 units delivered over to customers, marking a 122.5% increase compared to May 2024. It’s the strongest monthly performance for the SUV since June last year and Tesla’s best May since 2023.

Model Y powers ahead, Model 3 falls behind
While the Model Y’s numbers are climbing, the Model 3 sedan continues to struggle. Only 317 Model 3 units were delivered in May, a sharp 83.8% decline compared to the same month last year. The shift reflects the wider industry trend, with consumer interest leaning towards SUVs and crossovers rather than traditional sedans.

Daily deliveries hit 100 cars at some delivery centres
Reports from Tesla customers and staff suggest some delivery centres are seeing between 70 to 100 new Model Ys handed over per day. That demand appears linked to pre-orders made months ago, especially for the “launch edition” released in January, which saw high early interest.
Tesla’s country director, Thom Drew, highlighted in April that test drive bookings had hit a new company record in Australia. As shipments of the new Model Y arrived and became available nationwide, interest surged again—forming what he called a “second wave.”

Cautious optimism moving forward
Despite the May rebound, Tesla’s overall numbers for 2025 remain significantly behind. Year-to-date, Tesla is down 48.2% compared to the same period last year. The Model Y, while climbing again, is still 27.4% behind where it stood in May 2024.
Tesla’s May figures are still short of its all-time record of 7,018 deliveries set in June 2023, when the EV market was booming, and more than 5,500 of those were Model Ys.
