Key Points

  • Tesla's FSD Supervised hits 13 billion kilometres globally.
  • Over 3 billion miles driven on city streets worldwide.
  • Australia and NZ lead right-hand-drive FSD adoption.
  • Subscription-only model starts April 1, 2026.

Tesla’s push toward autonomy has reached another milestone, with the company confirming that vehicles running its Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised software have now travelled more than 13 billion kilometres worldwide.

In a recent update shared on

, Tesla revealed owners have surpassed eight billion miles of cumulative driving using FSD Supervised, the equivalent of more than 13 billion kilometres. The figure represents a sharp increase from December 2025, when the brand reported just over 10 billion kilometres driven under the system.

Growth has been rapid.

A live usage tracker published by Tesla shows that nearly 8.3 billion miles have now been recorded, with more than three billion miles, close to five billion kilometres completed on city streets. That detail is particularly significant, as dense urban environments present far more complex scenarios for driver-assistance systems than highway cruising.

One million users and counting

The update follows Tesla’s first formal disclosure of FSD Supervised adoption data last month, when it confirmed that more than one million drivers globally were actively using the system.

While North America accounts for the majority of kilometres travelled, 2025 marked a turning point for right-hand-drive markets. On 18 September 2025, Tesla rolled out FSD Supervised to eligible vehicles in Australia and New Zealand, making them the first RHD regions worldwide to gain access to the software.

Local uptake was swift. Within two weeks of launch, and before the monthly subscription option had even been introduced, Australian and New Zealand owners had collectively driven more than one million kilometres using FSD Supervised.

Pricing changes coming in April

At launch in Australia, FSD Supervised was offered as a $10,100 upfront option on new vehicles. Later in the year, Tesla introduced a monthly subscription model, now priced from $149 per month.

That subscription pathway has since broadened access, allowing thousands of existing owners to trial the system without committing to the full purchase price.

However, Tesla has confirmed that from 1 April 2026, FSD Supervised will only be available via subscription for new buyers. The outright purchase option will be discontinued.

Notably, the system remains unavailable for older vehicles equipped with Hardware 3, although Tesla has indicated compatibility may expand in the future.

A clear autonomy trajectory

The milestone comes as Tesla doubles down on its autonomy ambitions. This week, the company also announced the first production example of its purpose-built, steering- and pedal-free Robotaxi, the Cybercab, has been built at its Texas factory.

That development signals Tesla’s intent to move beyond advanced driver assistance and toward fully autonomous mobility at scale.

For Australian consumers, the implications are significant. The combination of expanding FSD usage, subscription-only pricing, and the introduction of dedicated autonomous vehicles points to a strategic shift: Tesla is no longer treating autonomy as a premium add-on, but as the core of its future business model.

And based on the latest numbers, drivers are already putting that vision to the test billions of kilometres at a time.
