  • Competitive Specs – AWD variant delivers 304 kW and 636 Nm of torque.
  • Practical Range – Up to 430 km WLTP from an 80.6 kWh LFP battery.

Australia’s ute market has been slow to embrace electric vehicles, but change is on the horizon. South Korean carmaker KGM (formerly Ssangyong) has secured approval to sell its first electric ute locally. The Musso EV will arrive in two variants, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD), expanding the country’s still-limited EV utility vehicle options.

A New Player in the Ute Segment

Measuring 5.16 metres long and weighing between 2,165 kg and 2,285 kg, the Musso EV enters as one of the lighter electric utes on the market. The vehicle is powered by a single-motor RWD setup producing 152 kW, while the AWD version doubles output to 304 kW.

The torque figure is particularly notable with the AWD delivering 636 Nm, enabling a 0–100 km/h time of around 8 seconds. That performance places the Musso EV among the stronger contenders in the emerging electric ute category.

Charging, Range, and Practicality

Both variants use an 80.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. On the WLTP cycle, the RWD version offers up to 430 km of range. Fast charging at up to 120 kW allows a 10–80% recharge in about 36 minutes, based on overseas specifications.

Practicality also plays a key role. The Musso EV carries a towing capacity of 1,800 kg and comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels. While not matching the heavy-duty capabilities of diesel rivals, the lighter weight and efficient powertrain will appeal to drivers seeking a balance of utility and lower running costs.
