South Australia has officially completed work on its first state-wide electric vehicle charging network. Built by RAA Charge, the EV charging arm of the Royal Automobile Association, this landmark network spans more than 550 charging plugs across 144 hubs. It’s one of the largest EV networks in the country and was made possible with the help of a $12.35 million grant from the South Australian Government.

The completed network places a strong focus on accessibility and regional support, with 98% of the sites located less than 200km from one another. These hubs are strategically installed along major highways and in key regional centres to help eliminate range anxiety for drivers heading across the state.

RAA’s charging hubs feature a mix of AC fast chargers (above 7kW) and DC rapid and ultra-rapid chargers offering up to 200kW of output. This includes destination-style sites such as the Snowtown hub, which was recognised by the Australian Electric Vehicle Association for its high-speed 200kW charging, sheltered parking, and nearby amenities.
More than 130 small businesses and 40 councils partnered with RAA to host charging sites. CEO Nick Reade praised the collaboration, calling it a strong signal of support for a low-carbon transport future in South Australia. In a post on LinkedIn, the RAA noted the network has already delivered over 100,000 charging sessions, using 2,801 MWh of clean energy and powering more than 13 million kilometres of EV travel.
