The 2025 Tesla Model Y "Juniper" is now on sale in Australia.
The worlds most popular electric car model has received its first major update since its initial launch several years ago, marking significant changes to both exterior and interior design, alongside technical improvements.
The update brings increased range and performance across the model lineup, with the RWD variant now achieving 466km range (up from 455km) and the Long Range AWD reaching 551km (up from 533km) according to WLTP testing.
Acceleration has also improved, with the RWD model now reaching 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds (1.0s faster) and the Long Range AWD in 4.3 seconds (0.7s faster).
The battery configurations remain unchanged, with the RWD retaining its 60kWh battery and the Long Range using approximately 79kWh.
The exterior redesign introduces several distinctive elements, including new split headlights and a full-width LED tail light bar.
The vehicle features redesigned front and rear bumpers, new wheel designs in both 19-inch and 20-inch options, and updated body castings aimed at reducing panel gaps. A new Glacier Blue exterior color has been added to the palette.
Inside, the Model Y receives a technology upgrade with a larger 15.4-inch central touchscreen, replacing the previous 15-inch unit, and adds a new 8-inch screen for rear passengers.
While the gear selector has been moved to the touchscreen interface, Tesla has chosen to retain the traditional indicator stalk, unlike in the Model 3.
Other interior improvements include ventilated front seats, power-folding rear seats, new fabric dashboard trim replacing the previous wood finish, and ambient lighting.
In the Australian market, the vehicle launches with two variants: the Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range All-Wheel Drive, priced from $63,400 and $73,400 respectively (plus on-road costs).
This represents price increases of $7,500 and $3,500 over the previous model.
Variant | Price (old model) | Price (new model) | Change |
Model Y RWD | $55,900 | $63,400 | +$7500 |
Model Y Long Range | $69,900 | $73,400 | +$3500 |
Model Y Performance | $82,900 | N/A |
The initial "Launch Series" includes metallic paint and 20-inch wheels as standard features, though these may become optional extras after the initial release period. All models are configured with five seats, and deliveries are expected to begin in May 2025.
