Kia’s latest addition to its growing EV lineup, the fully electric EV5 SUV, has officially arrived. Built on the brand’s trusted E-GMP electric platform, the EV5 offers Australian buyers a practical and high-tech option in the mid-sized SUV segment. First revealed in late 2023 and launched initially in China, the EV5 is now making its way to global markets, including Australia, where it’s expected to compete directly with popular EVs like the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7.
The EV5 is available with two battery configurations, 60.3kWh and 81.4kWh, offering a maximum WLTP-rated range of up to 530km. It supports 150kW DC fast charging, which can replenish the battery from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes, while 11kW AC charging makes home and public charging accessible. The model uses a 400V architecture, also seen in the smaller EV3.

Powertrain, Charging, and Drive Technology
The EV5 is equipped with a single 160kW motor in its base two-wheel-drive version, while a dual-motor long-range AWD variant is available in markets like Australia. This model adds a 70kW rear motor, enhancing traction and performance.
Kia has also included the latest i-Pedal 3.0 regenerative braking system, which supports smooth one-pedal driving. The SUV comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability for powering devices outdoors and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) functionality is expected soon.
