Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Recalled in Australia Over Braking Software Fault

Comments

Hyundai Australia has issued a recall for its flagship high-performance EV, the Ioniq 5 N, after identifying a software issue that could compromise braking performance.

The recall affects 307 units of the Ioniq 5 N built in 2023. According to Hyundai, a fault in the software managing the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) system may, under certain driving conditions, interfere with hydraulic pressure in the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). This could result in longer stopping distances and reduced braking performance — a serious safety concern for both drivers and other road users.

While no incidents have been reported publicly, Hyundai isn't taking any chances with its halo EV. The company has confirmed that an over-the-air (OTA) software update will be rolled out to resolve the issue. This update addresses both the IEB system and the vehicle control unit (VCU), and will be provided free of charge.

For EV owners, this recall highlights the growing role of software in vehicle safety and performance. Unlike traditional petrol vehicles, where most recalls require a workshop visit, Hyundai’s OTA fix allows affected Ioniq 5 N owners to receive the update remotely — minimizing hassle while maintaining road safety.

Still, Hyundai encourages all owners to contact their local dealership or the Hyundai Customer Care Team on 1800 186 306 to confirm their vehicle’s status and ensure the update is properly installed.

The Ioniq 5 N, praised for blending high-performance dynamics with cutting-edge EV tech, is one of Hyundai’s most advanced offerings to date. But as with any technology-forward vehicle, software oversight is critical — and Hyundai’s swift recall response underscores its commitment to the evolving expectations of the EV community.
